While having my circuit upgraded and pickups changed on my 60s CV Strat, I asked my local guitar tech to rewire the whole thing and turn all three dials into volume knobs and bypass the selector switch completely. He advised against it, but reluctantly carried out my order.

The result is great, but totally unpredictable, I get some great sounds with all three PUs engaged. The knobs now provide an enormous sweep, with an amazing array of tones available on the smallest of adjustments.

Anybody else had a similar setup, and good/bad experiences, or any crazy ideas for the now redundant pickup switch?

It’s a cool idea for sure!

I wonder if you might be able to pull the boards out of some micro pedals, route a cavity in the back, and use the selector switch for a couple effects?

intriguing idea. Maybe have the selector switch set up to introduce tone caps to the circuit, with one position being a bypass. That way you could have 4 different value of capacitors.

I might have to try that :D

I've never tried it with three volume knobs.

However, in the hopper to finish is one P/G with three mini DPT switches. My son gave me a vintage set of Don Lace (Not Lace, but actually labeled Don Lace) pickups S, S, H. The HB is actually a double barrel, in essence two complete single coils mated together, so either SC can be utilized or both together. Rather than a push pull, since I wanted to be able to choose which of the SC's to utilize, it's mini toggle is three way, LP style (except DPT mini sized). I can choose the 2 SC's and either side of the HB or both together, or all three pickup with the bridge a HB or SC.

I've never really had a yearn to split a HB, as I generally look at a HB as a different sound or I'd just use a SC equipped guitar. But since my son gave me these, I figured to use them to their full potential. One of these days I'll get it finished. :)

Maybe turn the selector switch into a 5 way time switch, with different capacitors for each spot kinda like an Esquire? That’s be cool. I do like the ability to blend the pickups at differing ratios, rather than all on.

I've gone the opposite direction with all my guitars. My strats have a blender circuit where the 2nd tone knob is repurposed to blend the bridge and neck PUs, and 1 master volume, 1 master tone. On my sg style I removed the individual volume and tone knobs and went with 1 master for volume, 1 for tone, and replaced the 2 empty spots with kill buttons20201021_175330.jpg . I find it much easier to get to the settings I like this way. I part
