Did that Tusq nut drop right in? Which one did you go with?
I got it on amazon Graphtech Strat Style Flat Bottom 42mm PT-5042-00 from seller The Above Market LLC $11.60

And yeah it did drop right in, just had to get some of the old glue out with a little scraping and sand paper.

Great. White. North.
Literally just put this back together. It arrived some months ago, I disassembled it, ordered a pick guard, some inexpensive tuners and a set of Rose EVO pickups. It's not set up but everything is working as expected:

Bullet_Mustang.jpg
Not much to explain other than having to swap the pickups, install the tuners and drill a hole in the pick guard for the switch. I decided to use all the rest of the stock wiring to keep cost down. I also removed the finish from the neck and applied Kiwi.

Did some mods to the Mustang last night. Heres the set up.

Orange carbon wrap on the pick guard. Took me 4 tries to get it right.

New strings, polished the frets and smoothed the edges. Smooth Emory board works fantastic and doesn't damage fretboard.
Here's the finished result. I'm thinking about a set of black tuners next time I replace strings.

I put entirely new electronics in my Surf Green one (named the "MegaCoolStang"), it's got a Duncan P-Rails neck pickup and a Golden Age Overwound Lipstick Humbucker bridge from StewMac. It's got a cheap bigsby styled trem, a new bridge plate and roller bridge, a TUSQ nut, a fret job and intonation, a push/pull to coil cut the bridge pup, a 3-way toggle for the P-Rails (P90, Series Humbucker, Single Coil) and is complete with a beautiful UNO card shim for the time being. The shim was made by cutting 6 uno cards, longer and longer, to create sort of a slope. The next few things I need are to make the nut slots a little bit deeper (the higher strings fall out of the nut because of how high the bridge is), find my locking tuners that suddenly disappeared, and get a white pearloid pickguard. After that, my "MegaCoolStang" will be close to being finished.

Is that your own design? Looks great!
Yup, My design mostly dragon head from yukiyo artist, not sure if going to change it. It's probably going to changed or cleaned up. Trying different dragon heads lol. I think I might add a mini hanzo on the neck with arrows shooting backp. Also maybe rhinestones or broken mirrors on top half where the white primer is. The flourescent green paint im going to use shines in blacklight also. Should be fun.

EDIT
Heres a newer version.
From 3dsmax, a have freedom to change the perspective to fit the guitar better.
Im gonna outline the 3d model more, removing all the wire frame.

New member here. Finally got back into playing electric guitar (been an acoustic player mostly for the past 10+ years), and decided to get a cheap guitar I can modify without caring if I mess it up. After considering many guitars, I kept coming back to the bullet mustang... and finally got it. Looks better in real life than in pictures.

For 150$ I am absolutely amazed with how AWESOME of a guitar this is, I am in love with it. I've had a PRS Tremonti SE years ago, a Fernandes Retrorocket (first guitar), Epiphone Les Paul (currently) and an Ibanez hollow body... The Mustang blows them all away imo, by looks and especially the feel of it. It feels more like an 800$ guitar than a 150$ one. If anyone reading this thread is considering getting one, I recommend 100% to get one! Of course there are some upgrades and stuff it needs, which is also part of why I wanted a budget guitar.

Mods I plan to put into it:
Seymour Duncan SH-5 Custom (bridge), SH-1N '59 (neck), 500k pots with ceramic cap, graph tech nut, shellac or teak oil on neck, shielding tape, tuners (still trying to figure out the best low priced option), kill switch (if I can find a good cheap switch).

For the bridge/saddles, I plan on getting highwood contoured saddles from Stew Mac or going cheap and getting some 8$ Korean stainless steel ones on amazon. Also trying to plan on making my own bridge and/or saddles out of steel with my welder and some sheet metal, but not sure yet, but will post here if it ends up happening.

After half an year of tinkering, it's complete.
To summarize all my posts here, I did the following:
- Kluson machine heads - Shiny and vintage looking, stable in tuning.
- Bone nut - From a tele, sanded down the edges cause of the thinner neck.
- Kiwied neck & polished headstock - Turned out really beautiful and shiny, giving a nice character to the guitar.
- Rolled fretboard edges, fret ends and polished frets - This one made the guitar fast and smooth to play. I was honestly surprised of the difference.
- Vintage bent steel saddles - Fits the whole nickel look, gave the guitar a better overall sound and looks neat.
- Switchcraft switch - The original was faulty, this one works. Also a nice touch was changing the direction of switching.
- Aged pickguard - Sanded the shine down, yellowed it a bit, although I'm not sure you can see this in photos.

One last thing I might as well do is ether split the humbuckers and put push-pull pots in it, or just get new pick ups all together, but that's an expensive upgrade. Will think about it.

Overall turned out an awesome guitar, very happy with the results.

I picked up a black one really cheaply a few weeks ago and finally got round to modding it the way I wanted.

I was waiting for a hotrail style pickup arriving plus some blank three ply black pickguard sheet,

My plan was to make a near version of a Fender Musicmaster I had years ago which I wore out and sold on in my younger gigging days.

As with all guitars, full fret level, dress and polish.

First mod I did was the Bubba one with the bridge, though I might still put some steel Tele saddles on rather than the brass. I also replaced the nut with a bone one and added a new set of 11s strings

I made a new guard from the sheet and wired the pickup in. At the moment it is simply wired full output, though I might try putting a push pull pot on and wire it to give a bit more variation from the two controls.

I have even worked out that with the Bubba mod on the bridge, it might even be feasible to put a 25.5" scale Tele style neck on. The square heel will push the neck slightly forward in the neck pocket and I think with moving the saddles back a bit more, I can get the longer neck to intonate.

I'll try it this weekend and let folks know if it works.
