I have several ponds in my neighborhood. One of our neighbors is this beautiful and terrifying Blue Heron.

We also have swans, ducks and geese. There is a bald eagle nest about 2 miles from me as well, and we see them in the winter/spring.

Why is the Heron terrifying?

LOVE the five print at the bottom. State Bird indeed, judging from the complaints I've heard from people coming back here after visiting Florida! I keep telling them at least ye didn't encounter the Manchineel! 😉🤣

Its huge, and is a dinosaur. Not actually terrifying, terror bird is a song.
Birds freak me out. Small ones more than big ones, actually. Just a personal thing. Hitchcock's The Birds is about the scariest movie ever to this guy.

Maybe ironically, I live in one of the world's great birdwatching locations. Clear Lake CA has hundreds of species that migrate in throughout the year, from Osprey to pelicans to quail to whatever you like. Eagles, owls, egrets, coots...I could go on. My wife spotted a California condor last month, which are endangered and not known to be in this area in modern times. Kinda neat.

We have blue herons, but more green herons...big dumb nasty birds that cover everything in the local park with poop, and very loudly fight with each other and leave fish guts all over.
