Hello Friends,

I have been reading alot of threads here BEFORE buying a Squier JV and I am always amazed by the knowledge and general friendliness of this board. I learned so much so thank you guys for that already!

This squier jv looks basically like brand new which made me skeptical of course, but all the authenticity marks are checked off for me from the top of my head:

1. C stamp and EX (even though handwritten but I have seen reports of these before) for export model
2. Fender Neck Shim with date close to neck date (not all but many jvs seem to have these)
3. Black bobbin USA Pickups
4. "Made in USA Pickups" sticker on Pickguard
5. JV serial on neckplate (329XX)

Theres only thing which struck me as odd and that is how the truss rod looks from the bottom of the neck. On almost any other JV Neck it looks like the metal is flush to the wood but in this particular case it looks like it is very loosely in there.

I would like to hear an opinion on this and if this is normal?

Also body was described as alder (weight of the guitar is 3.5kg or 7 lbs and 11 oz) and maybe someone can see if that is correct from the neck pocket because there is a little bit of wood visible.

The guitar is currently still shipping to me but I paid via paypal so I am quite sure everything is legit.

Hi Gamba66, Welcome to S-T.
This one looks MIGHTY clean, have any pics of the neck plate ?

Thank you for your quick answer! I am glad to be here, will be posting videos and sound samples as soon as the guitar gets here :)

To be honest I am quite sure everything checks out because the seller is a really friendly guy who is a professional guitarrist in the UK but it can never hurt to double check. Also, unfortunately, on the last guitar I was burned on the condition (it was really bad and not visible in the pictures) thats why paypal was mandatory for me this time.

And I do I forgot to add it:

I've downloaded your last pic and got a closer look a the plate, I 'm sorry to tell you this but this one aint no original "JV" neck plate. The fonts are not correct
Well this would certainly be a surprise but what about the other indications?

I mean its really not worth faking a squier jv at the pricepoint I paid for this and everything else seems to be legit such as the neck stamps pickups and so on.

So what about rest of the guitar?

Also I payed with paypal so I always have the chance to use buyers protection in the worst case that this is not an authentic jv

I googled a bit and found another 1983 black squier jv which has a very similiar neckplate

I am curious to hear some other opinions. If it is really fake I would take care of getting my money back and returning it to the seller but it just doesnt add up to me when the rest seems to check out..

Sorry...the photos are not clear enough to tell...and the fonts to me look right....I have a 32" monitor...the problem is the neck plate in the photos the OP has provided are not 100% clear, they are slightly blurry....

It looks like exactly the same font as other examples online, not all of them were engraved super cleanly either....

That one above is very clean but this one isn't

Here are the plain links if they dont show up:

Sorry, yes they do! I'm still waking up this morning lol

See you even have the original 3-way switch in there....it's legit.....and the proper black fiber bobbin 'usa' pickups for a mid production JV

Great looking guitar,, your a lucky man.. The only thing I would question is it looks like somebody has been messing with the truss rod opening as you pointed out the excess space surrounding it.. There is a roughness to the opening I've never seen before,, like somebody enlarged the hole for some reason..

Willkommen zu Squier-Talk. That's a beautiful JV Strat.

Thank you very much. As soon as it gets here I will post some more pictures and give my personal opinion of it.

Thank you sir. The guitar will be here in a few days, latest monday and then I will post about it again :)

Yes thats the only thing which struck me as a little odd. The previous owner, who is a professional musician himself, said he bought it from a collector who took very good care of it and barely used it.

I really hope it is just production tolerances as in that the hole was drilled too big or the truss rod came in a smaller size? Who knows, only thing that is for sure is that were alot of small differences between each of these JV series strats.*

BTW I am not a collector, I am a pure player and condition and such is not important to me as long as its not broking or lessens the quality. It could be that the truss rod was adjusted and these are signs of usage but as long as its not broken and functions correctly I am happy.

I will thoroughly check out the neck once it gets here finally.

Just wanted to ask you if you're buying it from Gumtree from a guy in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire here in the UK?

If so then I mentioned this guitar to my local guitar store (Music Street) here in Hntingdon a few weeks back and they know both the owner and the guitar and say both are lovely…. guitar has indeed been cherished.

It certainly looks good to me. Hope it all goes well.

Wow I am super happy to read this! Actually it is the people from the store that send the guitar to me (it says so in parcel Tracking). So yes it must be him. The guitar was listed on ebay though but we exchanged numbers and made a private deal.

I always say buy the seller first and then the product and he made an excellent impression on me and I have always had a real good feeling. But I was burned on my last used guitar sale thats why I wanted to check up just incase.

I will report back here, promise :) Maybe even upload a short video with some guitar playing
