I see the volume has a "pull to boost" feature? Does that add any dirt to it?
Not until I crank it a bit. Using a pedal for living room volume, when no one is at home I may push it a bit.

If it's anything like the Special 6 Ultra, you should be able to either Pull the volume knob up to boost, or put the Volume somewhere up over half then set the Watts fairly low to get some breakup. When I had the S6U, if I had the Watts all the way down, there was nothing clean anywhere on the volume knob.
I have the watts at minimum all the time and the boost always on. Just loud and clean. I wonder if the "watts" knob does anything? Maybe I'm not at the minimum???

Whats that rocker switch do?
l《O》ll ?

Texture Switch: This 3-position rocker switch selects the output’s high-frequency roll-off point. The middle position provides maximum top-end extension and the most harmonically complex texture; the left position provides subtle high-frequency roll-off for a slightly smoother texture; the right position rolls-off more high frequencies for the smoothest texture

I hit like but i really dont like this..
its got a presence,, depth,, And 3 EQ knobs..
Does it really need more contouring..
what it needs is a dirt switch!.. :D

I just noticed the internal speaker is 16 ohms. If I add another 16 ohm 1x12" cab (and switch the output to 8 ohms), I'd be running 2 12" speakers, yes???

no idea!

You know a lot of this, but it depends on how it's switched in. https://www.tubesandmore.com/tech-corner/speaker-impedance-power-handling-and-wiring

@jskeen and @Triple Jim and @platefire are my guys to doublecheck amp info with -though not to say that so many others here couldn't answer my questions.

If it's like my S6U, plugging into the speaker out will disable the internal speaker. I can't find a manual for the 44 right now, and the VHT product page appears to be unavailable. Most likely, you would need to disconnect the internal speaker connection and wire that driver up to "1" then connect your extension cab to "2" and set the amp for 8 ohms. You should be safe, if you wanted to test, to set the volume and the watts down low and plug in your extension cab, leaving it at 16ohm to see if it disconnects the internal.

If you add the 16 ohm speaker in parallel with the internal 16 ohm speaker, the two will make an 8 ohm load, so yes switch to 8 ohms and you'll drive them both properly.

The schematic shows that the jack for the internal speaker and two jacks for external speakers are all in parallel, so you'll be fine.

I looked up the manual for the S6U and I can only imagine the 44 is wired the same. Mine must have been defective, or repaired improperly at some point. Or my memory is slipping again and I'm thinking of a different combo that I used to have.

The manual for the Special 6 Ultra says:
Speaker Output Jacks: These two jacks are wired in parallel. The Special 6 Ultra combo has a 16-ohm speaker that is connected to the internal speaker jack. The combo’s speaker remains connected when using the external Speaker Output jacks. When using the combo with an additional speaker cabinet, switch the Impedance selector to 8 ohms.

Yep. Internal speaker remains functional with ext cab.
