"Beauty" is is oft said, "is in the eyes of the beholder."

This guitar is to me proof of that concept.

I love it. Others I know (and respect) think it so ugly that, as one put it, "I wouldn't be seen on stage with it."

Fair enough. Make your own judgments!

But if you find it ugly Gibson only gets a portion of the blame. I spent hours making it so.

(Same if you, like me, find it beautiful!) ;)

Okay, how does one present as "art" something so commonly seen as an ebony black Les Paul Standard? Basically, I concluded, by just putting it out there surrounded by a bit of color. Her beauty -- her art -- stand out on their own. They need nothing.

Here then is one example off such a guitar. My 1988 Gibson Les Paul Standard.

Out to be played every day for now 33 years. Almost never cased. Making music. Looking ever the sweet instrument she has been from the day I took her home...

Okay, one more just because she is SO lovely.

Of all my guitars this is, perhaps, the "finest." And without a doubt the most versitile.

She was made to be. First by Gibson. Then by her original owner, a Berklee School of Music instructor who also served as a busy sessions guy. He took what was a great guitar and made it even more perfect for his intended purpose: A serious, studio all-arounder.

Me? I picked up via a mutual friend who, himself a serious working musician (as a bass player) ran a small shop as his "day job."

Anyhow, yes, it is a Gibson. One of their "Artist" series from the late '70s and `80s.

This one had the simple name (fitting no?) "ES-ARTIST." It dates from 1980.

Okay, the pics...

Here's one more. Not mine, but my wife, Jan's.

Jan, of course, is best known for being a keyboardist, and vocalist, back in the `60s. (Shhh... That makes her...) ;) And that with the popular Boston band IV Kings and a Queen. But she plays guitar too, and this is one of her's.

Its a LUNA "Koi." Named after the popular 'lucky' goldfish so beautifully rendered on its body.

Just couple of quick shots, but enough to get the idea across.

Sounds so nice when Jan accompanies herself on it! Either plugged in, or just acoustic.

Jan back when, accompanying herself on her other guitar, a 1967 Fender 12 string Villager.

Yes, she still has it!
