I think I’m going to see one of these today:

I’ve only ever seen them in meatspace in the Satin/stained finishs, never painted/poly coated. Boy does thing thing pop!

A while back, I bought some Gretch Blacktop pickups from @Strato67 with the intention of putting them in my Ibanez AM73B, well... when I got the Ibby apart, I couldn’t bring myself to dig out the Center block to the make the tab clearance, and plug/redrill for the new pickup rings as well (ended up putting the freebie Guitarmadmess PAF ‘57’s in it, and now it sounds more LP than my ESP LP).

The one by me is a steal (and with a hsc), and if it’s in good shape, would look/Sound stunning with the Blacktop’s in it (and at the price it is, I won’t lament the woodworking so much).
Sweet lookin' axe !

As you can see, Epi isn’t very consistent with that (or ‘f’ hole placement)

L=Studio C=Royale R=Standard

The Royale looks mighty close to the Studio, and both are a long way from the Standard. The Pro’s are even lower on the body.
So switching the toggle and volume, and adding two more pots will be close to Royale spacing.

My brother has those 4 JC basses. Most of the bridges are in the same place. One is almost 3/4 different in position.

So for all of the keeping of the ol' eyeballers peeled that @radiotech does for me, he never reveals his sources!!! :D

That's a fantastic score. I would def forgo my insistence that it needs 2 vol and tone as nature intended, but... I would also swap the switch and the vol postions. eh.. potato/potatoe.

Excellent. I wonder what was up with the pickup screws.

I absolutely love the pickups in my G-400 -just that pure creamy goodness I expect from a humbucker. I wonder what the nuances are with these and no covers, but once you are in the Dot and G-400 range that are always good.

Neck angle also varies greatly on the JC’s.

I’m sure the ones Gibby provides Jack with are retooled at the Gibson plant. Jack lists his setup measurements on his site, which if you read... his Bridge is closer to the body than the stock insert lip is thick (which means his inserts are countersunk, the stocks are not), not to mention,... since they’re installed on a contour, are never flush to the body, yet (as you can see below), the test models they provided to Premier Guitar and No Treble, seem to magically have been inserted properly.

Don’t get me wrong, I actually like that Epi has these production inconsistencies… If for no other reason than it shows that humans are actually involved in the process, and you know… If they were perfect, there’d be nothing for us to tweak!

On revealing my sources... only after the fact ;)

I made the mistake (on another site, long ago) of listing a CL ad I was going to see that day, I was sniped by another member (I saw his NGD on another site).

I should clarify (because I think my statement could confuse anyone): Not 3/4 vertical to the face. It's 3/4 closer to the pickup towards the nut. The intonation is pulled way back. Do a face to face of the basses the nuts and bridge pieces line up but the posts are in different locations. Must be the Gibson influence. :D

I knew what you meant... just adding my own observations on the JC.

I have had the posts pull out on my Thunderbird. A lot of times my brother (on various guitars/basses) will pull the posts and glue them back before anything happens.

if you set the angle wrong, that will happen yeah, it happened to my vantage as well

AND, he’s a terrible shot. :D

Ok, he said forget it. He's going back to bass anyway. Also "thanks for making fun of my astigmatism."

Haha..
I like the look of the Jack Casady bass btw. Had never heard of it until I googled for your Epi. Know anything about that line?

Yup, had a tuxedo model (Black w/white trim).
Great bass, versitile pickup setup, it’s a variable (low/med/high) impedance via a transformer and switch (not a varitone, which is different value tone caps). Great in every way, except the bridge (and even then, it’s in the mounting, not the saddles). Can be divey, needs a good 3” strap. It’s the only bass @so1om brother gigs with.
It’s one of the few Epi’s to actually increase in value (Used).
They were $399-$450 new for the longest time, over the last six years they’ve gone up steadily, and now you can’t find one that’s sold recently on eBay for under $400 (often much more).

I’m sure that Gibson has tried to talk Jack into a Gibson edition, but he will not have anything to do with it (The model is based on the original Gibson Les Paul signature model bass, but the electronics were designed to Jack’s specification, he’s a low impedance pickup fan).
