Now...
Hey Joe
Wild Thing

So now I can play:
Smoke on the water
Jumpin Jack Flash
Kashmir
Back in the USSR
Day Tripper
Sunshine of your love
Nights in white satin
Hey Joe
Wild Thing (Troggs)

I've only been playing 2.5 months, so I think I'm off to an ok start!

I'm working on a bunch of songs on and off, besides my own stuff. 2112, Wind Cries Mary, and Going to California are a few. My own stuff is a weird hybrid of folk, prog, country, classical, and blues, in no particular order. It ranges from calm to funky to furious. Weird stuff.

Right now: Lots of drop-D stuff from Bruce Dickinson's solo albums with Roy Z. Simple stuff, but fun to play.

What I SHOULD be working on: learning the fretboard, managing to actually nail a simple solo...

And yes, I absolutely agree, "Wicked Game" is a great song to learn!

I am glad there isn't anyone learning the latest Beyonce song. lol.. someone makes a lot of money to record and tour with her, but I don't like that style music. Not sure if there is even a guitar in much of it. I am an old school rocker. I grew up in the 60's, so i love The Beatles, Zep, The Who... Creedance, Petty.. Tom Petty songs are great for guitar players... He is a great writer and Mike Campbell is one of the best and underated in the business. I love Jeff Beck as well... Rick Derringer, Johnny Winter and The Reverend Willy G.

I've spent a lot of time the last few months on youtube lessons, picking up technique related stuff. I steal Knopfler bits and pieces just to add a technique to my tools box.

As far as songs, just my own material.

Got a lyric that's been sittin on the shelf way too long, so last night I started messing with it. Couldn't decide on an intro, so moved to the verse. Nothing clicked, same with the chorus. But I came up with a nice arrangement for the bridge, so no time wasted.

You can say that again, except I was born about the time Jeep TJ's came out...

I just cringe with hip hop and all that, just to computerized, it's sound, not music, JMO.

Been working on a raft of Stones material - the band's already nailed Honky Tonk Women, Brown Sugar, Tumblin' Dice, and Jumpin' Jack Flash. Now it's off to B***h and Mixed Emotions.

Just finished Van Halen - Panama, going to tackle the solo for Hot for Teacher and Cathedral. Other songs include Soundgarden - Fell on black days - The Day I started to live (or something like that), Green Day Boulevard of Broken Dreams, SRV Pride and Joy plus a truckload of original stuff we've been working on.

Our song list is ridiculously long now (easily 300+ songs) and in reality we can't even play all the songs we know in a single rehearsal, but we can play 4 hours of music with no breaks. If there is a band we like, we'll learn a handful of their songs to cover all the basses.

In 30 years, I've forgotten more songs then I remember! I practice 1-3 hours a day if the family will let me, and if noone is home, I'll play all day.

MIJ Strat.. You are truly a dedicated man. I would say 300 IS ridiculously long for a song list, but at least you guys did it. There are people around East Tennessee, who were playing songs when I moved out of here 13 years ago and were still playing the same songs 10 years later. You know you have entered the twilight zone when you hear old time rock n roll played for about 20 years. Just the thought gives me the heebie Geebies...

I salute you sir, for your motivation and your level of appreciation for the art of making music... It realliy is a craft and if you don't do your craft you get really rusty and that isn't good at all..

Here's to 300 more songs.. and to good health..
