I have a 2005 Squier Affinity Bronco Bass that I’m thinking about selling. It has an EMG pickup but I still have the original pickup. Should I swap the pickup back to original and sell the EMG separately or is it not worth the trouble?

If you keep the EMG, would you use it in something else?

It's probably worth the effort as replacement pickups don't really add any value to selling guitars unless its new.

I have a Squier Strat - not sure if it would work well there. I could keep the original pickup as it’s a six pole covered pickup.

One thing I've done in situations like this is to sell the bass with the aftermarket pickup, but make it obvious that you're planning to include the original pickup in the sale. I did that with a Squier Jazz-5. I had put EMG actives in it as the original pickups were rather weak and toneless to my ear. After having it for about ten years, I sold it with the EMGs in it, but made sure in the listing to mention that the original pickups were included with the sale. Aftermarket pickups, even if they're a big improvement over the originals, often lower the value of an instrument. This way, you can still get the full value of the instrument and allow the buyer to have an option. Of course, this only works if you don't have a use for one of the pickups or if you don't plan on selling one of the sets of pickups independently.

It might add value to the transaction if it makes a potential buyer become a buyer because of the option you're offering him / her. But if the pickup that's removed has value for you, by all means, keep it.
