A while back (and I did a couple searches to no avail), a member asked how to go about making one of those pedals where you tap on it with your foot and you hear almost a bass drum thumping along as you play.

of course at the time I thought that was cool, but what would I need it for.. Well now I think I'd like to check that out!

I can't remember what it was called as there are some you can buy, but I think with a piezo I should be able to make something up.

any leads? any experience using one?

Thanks!

stomp box

I have one from Rondo .. never use it. It's ok, I'd probably have to EQ it to get a better sound out of it.

piezo work off vibration, movement of the surface will determine sensitivity and tone since that's what you're tapping. I haven't played with piezos much other than to learn that my experiments failed.

I used to repair my Mattel Synsonics drums a lot...

So I looked up a few DIY videos about these. One uses the piezo glued to the box, another uses a 4 ohm speaker wired like a guitar pickup (volume and tone) and a 3rd uses a guitar pickup (and volume and tone) mounted in a box with a metal plate acting as a string.

I'll be experimenting!
