Our band recently started using a Digitech Live 4. It corrects pitch and gives nice harmonies. Now our band is average at best with vocals, but using the pedal we sound good. Today our Bass player freaked out on me telling it was cheating and made us sound and be fakes. Any thoughts?

It's your band do what you like but, I'm in the camp that believes that Autotune is what killed the music industry as we know it.... just my opinion...

Cheating? If you can push a button and make a cool noise? Push the button...

Or just tell your singer he is out of a job and hire these guys...

I don't use pitch correction but I have a lot of fun with a harmonizer..Only for recording and personal fun..
My opinion on comercial use? I guess not, but then "the times they are a changin'"...
This is something that I've posted before..I'm using the Digitech Harmonizer for the background vocals..Real fun toy..

You mean there is something out there that is going to make me sound good? I am so pissed at all of you for not telling me about it! ;)

Not to knock Bass players, but, ...

This ain't right, but then again, I have a digitech rp70 that makes my little amp sound like a vintage tube monster and all the pedals I think I would ever need. Now if it would make me look like me when I was 20 I will get one of those too. I used to look pretty darn impressive:D

Mmmm...gotta tell ya, not crazy about the electronical alteration idea. I'd much rather hear someone who sounded natural, despite a few off-pitch notes. Would Jimi or Dylan singing really sound like Jimi or Dylan singing if they were autotuned? It's more about expression than pinpoint accuracy.

Sounds like a good tool - only thing is what happens if it craps out during a gig? Holy Ashlee Simpson Batman... Never hurts to use effects to enhance, it's your own call to make.

I've played in two different bands where the music was really tight, but never went anywhere because of mediocre to poor vocals (and yes, I am one of the guilty, abusing the crowd every now an then with a song or two )

A friend from another board reminded of the following and he is the real deal in Vegas...

Personaly ... I say use EVERY tool you have at your disposal!

Whether it's a 12 unit pedal board, one of these vocal processors or a keyboard that gives you the sound of having a string and brass section, it's all about making your performance the best it can be for the ONLY people that matter ... your audience! When THEY start to complain, then it's time to rethink your "sound".

By the way, nobody that goes to see Lady Ca-Ca, or Brittany, or the Black Eyed Peas or even Taylor Swift (who has the lousyest voice of all of then, IMHO) is going there to witness a vertuoso singing performance in the first place! They are going to see the spectical: the lights, the smoke, the coutume changes and the dancing.

3CH ... I say that if using this thing makes you sound more like Crosby, Stills and Nash and less like Moe, Larry and Curly ... then use it! Tell your bass player that if he is such a "natural man" he should unplug and get himself a stand-up.

Okay this and another post convinced me to stay with the pedal. A. I sound better, B, how many people use Reverb, distortion, Flangers, Phaser, etc. But most of all a poster reminded me. "THERE AINT NO RULES FOR ROCK AND ROLL"

Just a thought...spend $39.95 on Karan Andrea's DVD "Guitarist Wanted...Vocals A Plus" and see if that doesn't make a difference. That's the avenue I'm going to try for improving my vocal quality.

I wish I could sing like i could when I was young but too much whiskey and too much smoking I am lucky to speak. I don't try to sing anymore. Those of you that do, take care of what ya got. I am still able to carry a tune so long as I don't have to shrill. If a box will correct pitch I am all for it. I used to be able to tune my guitar by ear, now I have to have a tuner that has a green light when it is right. I am all for that. Hendrix admitted that nobody in the band was in tune at woodstock.
