Anybody else like to rock on a semi hollow?

Howdy, S-T'ers! Been off the grid for a while, thought I'd pop on and say hi. I hope everybody is doing aight!

I've reconnected with my Hagstrom Viking (ES335 style) lately, and decided to do a quick tone sample for youtube. Alex Lifeson (Rush) and Billy Duffy from the Cult were 2 of my early guitar influences back in the 80s. They both played semi-hollow bodies on some pretty hard rocking tunes, so I've always been drawn to them for crunchy rock. They feedback pretty easily, but it can be controlled and made musical (esp with Bigsby) if you can figure out how to bridle it. Obviously still a fantastic instrument for your lighter fare, blues and jazz, but a semi hollow will rock if you let it.

Here's my take on Wild Flower from the Electric album. Any Cult fans?

I use a 335 almost exclusively when rocking out these days... My LP used to but it has no pickups in it for easily a year... A mechanics car doesn't run.

If not mistaken, you have the RED model I seem to recall? Tough to beat rockabilly on a Gretsch semi!

I used to play my old Gretsch Rally for a time. Then I dropped it and the neck popped off, lol. But when switching to a new main guitar I realized how much the large body and flat fretboard was restricting me.

Oh hey.. in the 80s I played my ES-330 a lot. Amazingly nothing horrible ever happened to it in those crazy days. Also my Rick 360.

Knowing how I am now, I would do better with a smaller bodied guitar.

Yes ! I have an Orange Gretsch 5422T I got from @Bear and an Ibanez AS53 Satin Tobacco I just got after selling a Sheraton II Pro but,I don't sound as good as you do !

Thanks all! @Treynor I was always a big fan of the "Love" era Cult, so the Electric Peace reissue was the best of both worlds IMO, with all the texture and depth. I tried to work some of that phrasing in to this cover. But yeah, Billy is the man. Spent some time working on his riffs over the years

Saw The Cult in '89 Philly Spectrum they were suppoting Sonic Temple opening for Metallica ( ... Liberty and Justice for All) ... yea what a show that was !

Saw the same tour on the DC stop! They had the IMAG screens going and Billy kept kicking the pit camera. Believe he was a bit toasted. Had a tour shirt, no idea what happened to it.
