Flew here on my Dragonfly
So I figured - 4th of July, Disney + already paid for, certainly not GOING anywhere ... sweet , I'll watch "Hamilton"!!

OK, about 1/2 way through - I'm done!!

Nothing WRONG with it, per se -- the music is fantastic, its really well written, takes place in NYC ... but ... it just didn't grab me

I guess there HAD to be ONE person out there - and I found him o_O

move along - nothing to see here!

:)

In the sixties I was an art major at an acclaimed NY school. I quickly observed the trend to call what is perhaps clever, but not more, "good" and "decided" (was such a choice or simply nature?) to not repeat the commonly expressed praise.

I have no argument with people "liking" what to me is simplistic and faddish. No more than I 'mind' parents putting their kids' drawings on the fridge. But please, PLEASE, don't ask me to praise it.

In 1966 I was offered the only known film footage of the painter Jackson Pollock at work -- this by its owner, himself an Academy Award nominated film maker (and my "boss") -- for the purpose of creating a documentary centered on it and the artist himself.

I spent some time in the screening room viewing it, and then turned him down. "Pollack deserves to have his work used and spoken about by someone who himself respects it." That was worded politically, for in truth I thought (and still think) his work fridge ready rubbish.

Let others find joy in it. See the "meaning" they see or has been told is there.

In other words, "enjoy! enjoy!" Just allow me to view (or listen to) something else. Something free of nonsensical BS pretensions.

I agree with the JP thing. Anybody can sling paint on a canvas... Can he do DaVinci?

You made it further than me! I made it about ten minutes. Like you said, it wasn’t bad, just not my thing. The rest of the family watched and I took the dog for a long walk!

Absolutely no interest, or any plan to see it...

I love musicals. I love American history and am in awe of this nation's founders. But I, too, have no interest in seeing "Madison."

The whys are simple. I dislike hip hop culture and see no connection whatever between it and the values inherent in, and causative of, the nation's founding. And, two, I have no respect whatever for the historical "notions" of those who produced it.

I skipped a recent airing of "Godspell" for similar reasons.

American musicals? There are plenty that I love! "High Society" "Singing in the Rain" "South Pacific." Even "Chicago" worked on its own level.

But this? Nope. In the perfectly chose word of the OP "Meh."

Mutant!

Hamilton is a masterpiece!
OK, I am gonna qualify that slighty...the LIVE STAGE VERSION of Hamilton is a masterpiece. I watched the "movie" of the live stage version and the magic & impact of many scenes did not fully translate to small screen. If the only way you ever see Hamilton is on the small screen, you will likely not have the same impression of it.

You are still on the "mutant suspect" list!

He probably could, but he didn't need to. da Vinci already made all the da Vinci works.
Abstract Expressionism has completely different goals, and can be far more interesting over a longer period than representational art.
It's like Folk Music versus Death Metal.

Meh. Singin' In The Rain if you want fluff done well. Everyone Says I Love You for a contemporary take. On Broadway it's Sweeny Todd or Miss Saigon. Something dark will hold my interest. Musicals as entertainment, while a dying medium, are still overated as an art form, IMO. I find most infantile. Mamma Mia? That was a good one.

Under rated and superb?...
