...This thread is a WARM THANK YOU to all of the people who push me to try things in the face of my own hesitation and lack of self-confidence.

SO THANK YOU ALL!!!!

Guitar Guy
Papa Joe

The countless others. Thanks so much guys!!

Here is why:

I have made a few threads and several PM's about getting a Pick Guard made for my S65.

http://www.squier-talk.com/forum/other-squiers/35450-your-opinions-please.html
http://www.squier-talk.com/forum/other-squiers/35299-can-someone-make-me-pickguard.html

Blah, Blah, Blah.

Well, throughout this whole thing, there were some real standup folks who offered to make me one and also pushed me to try it myself. I tried doing a few things to the stock guard but it was NEVER what I really wanted. So I got on good 'ol eBay and found me a piece of black pearloid, which arrived today.

...let the over-documentation begin, lol...

Package arrived today, in great shape, from China.

Opened it up and it looked great!!

I put the scissors there so you can see the SIZE of this, for $10 shipped!!!

OK, LETS GET TO WORK!!!

I made a tracing which actually consisted of 2 different pick guards. The first, is an actual SG pick guard, which I bought hoping it would work. It wasn't wide enough between the pickups so I used the STOCK guard as the top part of the tracing, making this Pick guard one of a kind:

Put the tracing on the guitar just to check fit and look:

Used the zip-bit on my dremel to get as close to the lines as I was comfortable with:

After some time with a rotary table sander, a hand sander and a bastard file, I came up with this:

I'm liking it....I am not going to do a beveled edge, because I don't want to kill it in the process.

Here it is mounted up on the guitar:

So after some Lemon oil on the fretboard, a good scrubbing, some new Dean Markley HELIX strings, and a slight intonation adjustment on a few strings, this thing is sweet as pie and playing like a dream!!!!

I will get one of my good 'ol "Jeff's front porch" pics tomorrow!!!!

Until then!!!!

WHOA! That looks fantastic! Plus you get the satisfaction of having done it yourself. Win/win, my friend.

Thanks for the shout-out above. I've gotten so much support on this forum from so many people--you included--that you'll never get anything but good vibes from me. Heck, when I started building and modding and first joined Squier Talk, I probably couldn't have told you which part of the guitar was the bridge. Now I don't think there's anything I'd be afraid to try with a guitar.

Good on ya, sir. Again, it looks GREAT. And plenty of leftover black pearloid, too! Never know; that might come in handy sometime.

BTW, My family on my moms side is from AR, don't know if I spelled it right, but Morrilton in fact! I remember coming down there during the summer for visits, Pettit Jean mountain's awesome! I happened to ride through there on my way to Vegas a few years ago and lo and behold the Car museum was still there! Good times!
