Squier Talker
Hello,
First-time poster here. In fact, despite having various hobbies and interests I've never joined a single forum in my life before, so here we go...
As part of my ongoing midlife crisis I decided to return to guitar after many years away, and after some fairly rudimentary research, I bought a '95 Korean Squier Strat (CN5...). I was under the impression it might be OK despite the age, but now it's arrived I'm not so sure.
I have some questions and would be very grateful for any responses:
1) There seems to be an alarming amount of sunlight between the neck sand the body pocket on the bass side of the neck (see pictures). I'm guessing that's not ideal? Is this the original body?
2) On the body: I'm getting a thickness of approx. 42mm on this, but I was under the impression that these were meant to be full-fat bodies (so about 3mm short). Again, is it the original body then?
3) The strings aren't even close to lining up with the pickup poles, especially on the neck pickup. Are the pickups meant for a different type of neck, or are they off something else, etc?
4) Blank neck plate – again, is the body from somewhere else?
5) There's a bit of fret wear but overall they seem fine. Last time I played I had medium jumbo which, to me, felt nicer. Would attempting a regret with some pre-shaped fret wire be overly ambitious?
6) A lot of the screws are a bit chewed which makes me think it's been played around with before. I'm happy to mod it but is it worth it? I'm thinking tuners, nut, trem and loaded pickguard but if there's something fundamentally wrong with the neck and how it relates to the body then maybe it's not with it?
Long post from someone without a clue there, any help appreciated. Cheers
