I solemnly swear to bring my guitar collection down to 10 guitars.

Here are the keepers:

- Fender MIA Am Pro Strat
- FGN NLC-20 Les Paul Custom
- Squier MIJ E-Series Strat
- Squier NC "Hands" Strat
- MIM Martin acoustic

I'm going to keep around another 5 guitars, and the rest are gonna find new homes. The collection has gotten out of hand and it's time I grew up and took responsibility for my GAS.

Wish me luck. I've already dropped from 40 earlier this year to about 20 right now. Time to keep moving.

I only know one other person who's more roller coaster than you @Eddie (his count bounces from 100 down to the 50's every couple years). I still don't know if the dryer thing is real, or just a running gag for you, but if it's real... that's when GAS goes too far.
Having had two daughters myself, and living in a big city, I could not imagine life without a dryer when my kids were school age (although growing up, my family spent long stretches without one).

I'm hoping for a bakers dozen, but that will hopefully include basses, Ukes, and Mando (maybe a banjo), but it's going to be slow going, because everything I have now is SOOOOooooOOO good (and unique).

Wish you luck but not sure why you have to get rid of what you have to get your GAS under control. I have 9 guitars at the moment and don’t see me getting rid of any except maybe the Gretsch Rancher. I just can’t seem to like that guitar like I thought I would. Two are gone that I don’t think I mentioned on here. The red Squier Classic Vibe 50s Strat went back to Sweetwater because it had a bad tuner that would just spin several times before catching and start tightening the string. Didn’t feel like trying to find replacements. The American Vintage II fiesta red Strat went to a really good friend who begged me to sell it to him. Didn’t want to but he is a great friend so I gave in. So that leaves me with the Aria AD-50 Martin copy dreadnought, a Recording King RD-318 dreadnought, a Martin D28 dreadnought, the Gretsch G6120T VS55, The Gretsch G5420TG 59, The 87 American Standard Stratocaster, the MIM Standard Stratocaster, the Player Telecaster and the Gretsch Rancher. I think my GAS is finally under control. I can’t think of anything else I want. Except a Martin D18 which I can’t afford now so thats why I got the RK RD-318. Yep I’m cured. You have to be more selective in what you have so you’re content.

Good luck, it's not easy to let go.

Then, when you finally do let go, there's the regret.

Then, the "one that you wish you never sold" threads.

You always second-guess your decisions.

I'm currently down to 32. I just sold one and I have 3 for sale, but the market is dismal. My goal is 10 guitars and 3 basses.

Good luck out there!

Best of luck.

In my mind I'm at 10, but that's not counting a cheap Washburn Acoustic I keep for open mics and a Squier P Bass for very occasional recording. So I guess that's 12.

Then there is a 40th Anniversary Squier Strat and a MIM Classic 50s Tele that I'm actively trying to sell, so I kind of don't count them, but that does technically make it 14.

Then I remembered the cheap travel guitar under my bed...a sort of Strat pickguard shaped Harley Benton thing. Cost me less than a tank of petrol, but again technically that makes it 15.

I keep my Rickenbacker 330 in a display case at the top of my stairs, so I guess that makes it 16, even if it's more for show and in memory of my Dad (due to the colour, he didn't play guitar).

But if anyone asks I say '10 plus an acoustic and a bass'. :D

I was going to buy myself something for my 60th birthday later this year. My JV Squier was my 17th birthday, my Epiphone LP for my 30th (yes I only had ONE guitar for 13 years at that point) and my Gibson Tribute Gold Top was for my 50th birthday, so it seemed fitting at least a good few years ago.

I like the search for this mythical 60th birthday guitar, but I'm coming to realise that there isn't really anything I'm after: I've sold semi acoustics because I find them a bit bulky. I've got most of the pickup types covered that I'm interested in, other than mini humbuckers, but I'm not convinced they are massively different to what I already have.

On the plus side being retired I have both the time to mess about working on guitars, reading on line about them and still have loads of time to practice and play our gigs. I do think at times in the past I should have spent more time practicing and less time GASing though...

Good luck to you @Eddie ! But the addiction of GAS is real. It will be tough to shut that down. Especially for you! 😂

What worked for me is to start searching for a nice example of a guitar style I want. That still allows you to shop and read the classifieds, but slows down the actual nonsense buying. It’s not hard to buy a cheap guitar these days. Finding the best deal on a good guitar that you know you will enjoy is a whole different story.

After selling off all the cheap guitars, I would recommend looking for the perfect Explorer type guitar for you. Read tons of reviews, play different brands in the stores, find the one model you really like, and then start shopping!

If I had a nickel for every time I heard this coming from you I could buy 10 more guitars. :D

The Almighty said ... Ed, enough is enough, and zapped my catalytic converter. :(
My cat also got zapped last Monday! After an oil change service, the engine check light came up. I thought they did something wrong. Took it to my favorite neighborhood shop, and boom - a $1,500 bill. I have an old 180k miles ran 2010 Subaru Forester that serves me well, and already paid off.
