They will be ceramics. Other than that, I don't know. You won't find alnicos until you get up to the Standards and above. Funny thing is that Fender MIM also have ceramic pups, and plastic nuts.

I never judge pickups by specs or whether alnico or ceramic, I just judge them on how they sound to me in the guitar.

If buying new, then I do go by how hot they are (don't really care for hot pups), or, if alnico, then the type of alnico slugs used. V's are hotter than III's, and II's are less hot yet, and very good for jazz, etc. in a hollow or semi-hollow guitar.

I can't help you with the specs, but I will say that they don't sound half bad. Plenty of treble Tele twang and good output.

Of course this also depends on what amp you are using etc., and the sound you are after. I liked them enough to keep them in my Affinity as their sound compliment my other Teles nicely.

I pulled the plate off the other day to take a peek and the pots look full sized. Not sure what kind they are. I have some cts pots and other stuff almost here and will know for sure in a few days after I strip all the factory stuff out.

Dunno for sure but I did read somewhere 500k...

Edit - I took them off and saw they have 500k marked on them so 500 it is...

I've tried for a few years to find out what the pickups are rated at. Nobody seems to know. My guess is the bridge is pretty strong and the neck not so much. But that's pretty inexact!

Just got a affinity tele 3 days go. great sound out of the box. I really like the neck pickup, but the bridge pickup seems weak in tone, and i will surely be upgrading. suggestions for somewhat economical bridge pickups?

You can get a tonerider tele bridge pickup (either hier vintage plus or hot classic, depending on what you are looking for) for about $40.

If you want to go even more economical, GFS or Dragonfire might be the way to go

Easy to find out if anyone has them removed, just put the meter to them.

I've got a set removed, and I've got a meter. Now,this is probably a stupid question but, what reading on the meter do you take? AC-DC or OHMS?
I haven't used one of these that much, and the instructions don't tell much at all. On the X1K scale the bridge pu reads 125, and the neck pu reads about 124.
If ayone can tell me how to read this right to check pickups, It sure would be a big help.

OHMS - and you should probably be on a range to read in the K Ohms.

Your readings (124, 125) - something isn't being measured right - should be in the 3K to 11K ohm range.

BTW - you can get a very close approximation of a pickup DC resistance (ohms) without having to take the pickups out of the guitar.

Plug in a guitar cable to the guitar output jack, make sure the volume and tone controls are turned all the way on, and then measure the resistance between the tip and ring/ground at the other end of the guitar cable.
Alot quicker and easier than taking the pickups out.....

hudsonnh; I've never tried this but can you get individual pup readings by selecting with the 5 way (3 way on some) switch on the pickguard? Or won't that matter?

Yes you can get individual pup readings and the readings of the pups in parallel (position 2 and 4 on a 5 way switch)

The method is not 100% accurate - but close enough to give a real good idea of the DC resistance....probably within about 95% or so....

hudsonnh,
Thank you for the instructions.
The 124 & 125 reading was what it read on the AC-DC scale.
On the Ohms it reads from the left side of the meter one mark past 4 on the bridge pu, and 4 on the neck pu.
How would that compare as to how strong, or weak a good pu is supposed to be ?
Sorry for all the dumb questions, but until now, I never got into this end of it before.

Sounds like a reading of just around 4K ohms.
That's within normal range for a pickup.

Not real hot though- but DC resistance range is not really an indication of how "good" a pickup will sound.
