Well, I finally went and did it. I snagged the cherry sunburst Standard I’d seen on FBM (needing some bodywork attention) for a good price, only 23 miles from home. I’d been tracking it for about 3 months and it didn’t sell, so in the end it was a mercy mission to save the poor thing. 🤣 This means I now have two identical Standards (which needed some explaining to my understanding wife!). See below fairly cr*p photos taken in semi-darkness against an annoying background of strawberries:

The first one on the left (“Cherry Blossom”) is from 2011 and is being kept mostly original, the ‘new’ one, which is from 2021 (I think – it has a serial number beginning CY2111 …), is going to be extensively modified to be Cherry Blossom’s twisted sister, “Black Cherry”. It’s a longer term project but quite exciting to plan it. Hopefully, to keep me out of other guitar mischief.
Cheers all, rorygman

Gorgeous guitars! I love those cherrybursts! I guess I need to do a new family pic, as a couple of these have had some mods completed, but you can always show this to the wife as a "at least I'm not this guy"! haha!

Thanks @Ace38, that's really helpful as I can see what each of the various pickguards would look like on a cherry burst!

I've seen far worse backgrounds 😁

2002. The Standards last year was 2019 before being discontinued.

Looks like you've picked up a fine Standard to make a matching pair. Speaking of last year of production for the Standard, I have a 2019 FMT Cherryburst Standard. The finish is replicated over the back side of the body as well, and not all red like earlier versions. I wonder when that change was made?

Thanks @russbryant … I’ll have to take a better picture in proper daylight, they’re much redder than my photos above! The sienna bursts are a bit browner than this, I think.
It’s news to me if you can tell the colour from the S/N … is that a thing??!
Cheers, rorygman 😎

I stand corrected. mine is a cherry burst. The model number link in the serial number lookup will give more of the specs too.
