Found this gem today on FB marketplace and it’s one of the original run of CV strats with the anodized PG. The PO swapped the guard for a mint green one but it’s otherwise stock. The guitar body got dinged at some point so the PO bought another CV body without dings to swap but never did. He included the new body with full size mexi trem with block and the old anodized PG. All for a mighty fair price of $225. And so far I’m digging it! Pics:
Here’s a question for my squier brethren. The guitar plays great and sounds great. The only thing that seems not up to snuff is the switch. Just feels a little cheap and it’s literally the only piece on the guitar that feels that way. If this was your guitar would you upgrade the switch? Squires are rarely super collectible anyway but is this one you wouldn’t mess with if it was your guitar?
I had one and I replaced the anodized PG, 'cause it killed all the highs. But, a 3 ply mint one is 60s style, not 50s. If you want to be period correct, it should be a single ply white one. It's also got 11 holes, but the other body has the correct 8 holes. Have you checked underneath to see that the pickups are STA5 alnico 3s?
That serial number comes up on Fender's website as the CV 50s in white with the gold PG, but they weren't 11 hole PGs, AFAIK. It should be 8 hole.
The CVs have mini pots and the import box switch. You can get an Oak Grisby/CRL style Fender switch on Ebay for about $10 with free shipping.
The previous owner got a ding on the guitar body and so... bought a whole new body to replace it with?! Woah, it has escalated quickly, here! Even better for you, comes with the beginning of a partscaster included! Enjoy the guitar and have fun piecing together the rest of the other.
