The Affinity Tele. The best Tele out there for a cheap mod platform.

If you sign in with a new email there's a 15% coupon. ($271) Alnicos, vintage tuners, "bone" nut, string through three saddles, "aged hardware", and its even got black binding of some type. If it wasn't a skunk neck I'd own it. Tempting. I'm currently playing all three of my Telecasters. Barely. I don't need a fourth, but this would be it.
Curious...

Why is a skunk neck a dealbreaker?

Because I love my CIJ '62 RI without a skunk stripe and I don't need another Telecaster. No stripe would have made the temptation too great to resist. It just seems more vintage authentic. It would have put me over the edge and my credit card would be out now, looking for glasses to read the CVC code.

BTW, I don't own a guitar with a maple board, so that was my excuse to myself that I should get it.

Sometimes finding reasons NOT to pull the trigger is the real challenge :)

Well played!

Just don't squeeze a Skunk Stripe to tight! It will Spray you! 🤣 When I was about 10, I was down in Cape Cod at Grandma's Cottage. I started chasing a Cat then noticed a Stripe running down it's Back. Too late! Seriously I have had many Necks with SS. Seems like the Maple shrinks faster than the Walnut, or whatever they use, so you can feel the seams. I am not afraid to sand it down though and like the Look! :D

When we were married for a few years, in our first house, we had an early summer bash with tents out back, lots of food, maybe even a keg. When the night was over I put the garbage in bags and set them alongside the house, outside our bedroom window. A skunk got in the garbage, and my neighbor's black lab got the skunk. Meanwhile, our bedroom window was open and our eyes were burning. We had to throw away our bedspread.

Maggie, the lab, got sprayed badly. My buddy next door was cleaning his dog and I was cleaning our bedroom. A year or so later Maggie scared away a baby bear (yearling) who stumbled into our yard while our small kids were on the swings. Love that dog. She chased the bear up a tree and we grabbed the kids off the swing set. Great dog. Love labs.

Had to stop my bridge conversion. The cavity shows on three sides no matter how you position it.
The original bridge is going back on, bummer.

Take note there are at least 2 versions of the Affinity Tele out there:

Original with thinner body and the bridge as above.

2022 onwards, thick body and vintage style bridge fitting like mine;

Note sloppy string through holes for D & G

Looks like minor routing will be needed but may be just bad QC on mine, these are cheap guitars. after all.

I love the grain, I have a Squier Standard with the same grain! Did the string holes come like that on it new?

Yes. And the neck holes were misaligned and needed to be filled and re-drilled, again, a cheap guitar that I bought for £90 and already have bids of £40 on the neck on eBay so not really an issue. As I have a pretty well equipped workshop with pillar drills etc , a quick job but maybe not so much fun if you're new to this

Maybe if you'd paid the new price of £160-220, you might not be so thrilled. These things are probably not design flaws and probably affect a few guitars out of thousands they make, its just hurried construction with poor or no QC, e.g this is the FSR Alder version sold in EMEA a few years back, that I have my eye on and it doesn't seem to have the same issues as mine beyond probably the owners bodge of the rear control plate hole.

At this point, haven't needed to mod it, but the Monoprice Retro Classic TL's (string thru body version) were under $ 100 as new & on sale. If they ever need to be modded are ready for that for tuners, pickups, bridge plate, output jack, just anything that generic wood could take to become a Monoprice partscaster.
