Someone mentioned SX guitars, and it recently reminded me of these SX Liquid guitars: f6qlcqmd0qbr59bbigmi.jpg

Anyone ever play one, or know much about them? I was looking at them last year...at the time, they were dirt cheap, like well under $200...I guess I should have jumped on it, they're harder to find now, and asking prices for used ones are getting over $300.

They also made a humbucker model with a Jazzmaster style trem, those are even harder to find now...I'd probably be more interested in this triple 90 model.

Info? Wisdom?

I owned a black one with 3 pickups. But it came with some defects so I got a quick and full and easy refund.

I own a two-pickup CAR with the trem. It is the short-scale version and is a smaller-bodied model (which was never advertised.) So it's either a 7/8 or maybe even a 3/4-sized guitar.

So I don't know what you want to know. Both models I played had P90s, which I thought sounded pretty good but I'm not really knowledgable about P90s.

Yes, the prices have gone crazy on the used market. I've found that, as I said, often happens with either discontinued models or models that take a long time to be resupplied.

Btw, I bought that 3-pickup model in January 2020 and it was on sale for $115.95 before Reverb shipping but the regular price was maybe $180 or so. This one had a 25 1/2-inch scale. The controls are like a Strat with IIRC a reverse-wound middle pickup.

They come from https://www.rondomusic.com/electricguitar.html I have bought some cases and a nice Agile from them. Quality and fast shipping. Looks like stock is low right now. Probably from the Kung Flu.

I've bought from Kurt at Rondo and also off Reverb, where he lists some guitars. The shipping at Reverb I've found is about half what Kurt charges.

Kurt is great to work with and answers questions quickly. You could try asking him when/if some more Liquids are coming back in stock.

Btw, I tried to sell my Liquid locally at a consignment store. Even the crickets stayed away.

Yeah what happened to Rondo Music? They used to have so many styles offered but these days it seems like they are just selling off stock and when they run out that model is gone.

Agile s have a great rep and as an owner of one I would agree. SX sold by Rondo as well and some of the guys at a guitar forum.net swear by Kurt and all he sell. That forum was an Agile/Rondo forum.THe site was sold out last year and it was ruined, so now there is a newer site a guitar forum.net (Used to be .com) That site had a ton of information It was converted and ruined so I dont know if you can find as much info now. BTW the a guitar forum.net has a bunch of folks of similar to mindset this to forum. Traffic is way down since the site was purchased and ruined and restarted by a few members. Go check it out

Yeah, been there. Bought one 6 yrs ago, built a Liquidcaster, there is a post on this from yesteryear. This was a double P90 model, swapped out the neck for a Fender tele. Installed a Lollar and gold foil. The guitar was decent, as all SX models usually are. Bought on sale if I recall. A good size body, but it was balanced, P90's were good, puny pots, chunky SX neck w/amber & high gloss. There was a young rocker, sorry I forget his name, great player who has passed. He played a Liquid on the road. There is a vid of him playing with the Fabulous Thunderbirds. DSC00027.jpg

Good info y'all...if you Google various discussions, some people think SX going out of business or the company's up for sale, but who knows...so much about these cheap importers brands is a mystery. Definitely feels like I missed getting while the getting was good, either way...you can find a blue one listed on Rondo for $199...idk. I'm thinking about it.

Where’d you get the gold foil?

Before you buy, check out Rondo's shipping charges. Sort of high. That's why I ordered off Reverb.

@RoyalWe The gold foil is GFS, probable the original issue. Very close to a drop-in for a soap bar P90. If you're looking to buy, there are 2 types, the old school original ferrite magnet and alnico magnet.

I’ve had one in a cart, and all the way to the last step of checkout a number of times... it always came down to a 3-pup, but they never had one in burst when I had the hankering, and when I was willing to settle for black, those were usually out too...

I’d love a liquid in a color (LPB, or SG), but the SX guitars I’ve had in any “color” finish (other than black/natural/burst), I’ve found to have a pretty thin skin of paint (I think they paint over one of the three finishes in parentheses above). The good thing about that, is they’re easy to wear quickly (authentic relic), but easy to nick doing a setup (happened to me twice).

The one I've always wanted to get was the sunburst. But, for some reason, that model/finish went out of production several years ago and I just never saw it return, although the Liquids came back in many other finishes as well as natural. As for the durability of the painted finishes, I've never had any problem with my 2-PO Liquid and it was set up professionally. I didn't have my 3-PO LB Junior very long but I didn't notice any problem with that finish either. It certainly is possible that some finishes are spray-painted over a previous finish as I've read/heard about that happening with other brands too.
