I’ve gotten some screaming deals on guitars, but never a free one. Welllll, unless we count my first bass, which was my fathers, tucked away in the basement that I pretty much decided was mine one day at 13 years old.

I too was thinking who gets free guitars?
And like some others here I realized... me, I too have received a free guitar.

I worked on this guitar a few times for a friend.
Had a great neck and s0me excellent parts.
I once mentioned that I liked the neck and if he ever decided to part with it to keep me in mind.
One day he called me and said "I got a buzzy fret on the Explorer, I tired of it, do you want it?"
I said, well we can probably glue them down... I had previously glued down a couple frets for him. He was like, naa, I'm just tired of messing with it.
So I asked how much he wanted... He replied huh? no, do you want it?
I tried to talk him out of it but no luck with that.
His position was I had worked on his guitars so much and had only charged him for parts that he wanted me to have it.
    What could I say?
So I met him at his gig that night and he gave it to me, but no case.
His girlfriend had bought the case fairly recently and he didn't want to offend her by simply giving it away.
A couple weeks later I installed some speakers and jack plate in a 4x12 cabinet and he "paid" me with the case.
Glued down 2 frets that were lifting slightly and that's it.
    Still plays excellently today.

    Well....
I don't know, I've never played a Firebird (although I have driven many, I once owned 5 at the same time)
They hang well from a strap, and are very comfortable to play when sitting.
I have 2, the JB Player, and my 84 Gibson, both play great with the Gibson being noticeably better, no surprise there... :D

I've had so many free guitars that I don't remember most of them..All gone now except my old Strat..
It was total junk and headed for the dumbster when it was given to me..I brought it back to life and gigged it for about 20 years..
Still have it and it do kick tail..

It's one of for sure..Had to make it to cover that chiseled out cavity..At one time I had a circuit board in that cavity for a bass boost, a treble boost and a gain boost..Awesome sound..

Well, I reckon I'd never had the luck of someone outright just giving me one except for my mom when I first started . She taught me a few chords on her old Harmony acoustic and said you can have it as long as I can still use it . So she let me use it to see if I'd stick with it well I did and a few months later she gave me a few bucks to get a used electric from this guy that sold old guitars at our local flea market. I have received a lot of guitars as gifts Christmas mostly . But never had one given to me. Oh well there is still time !

Do the guitars I bought with the profits from selling other gear count? If so, I have about 40 free guitars.

Well, I too have actually had a guitar given to me. I forgot about it until reading this thread. My buddy gave it to me, but I left it behind the bar at his place so I have something to play when an impromptu late night jam breaks out. That way I don't have to wake the wife by coming back home to fetch a guitar. The "classic" Esteban Midnight Legacy - actually not a bad player:

Haha, yeah carved that into the front back in high school (when I was also taking Latin classes). Still not sure if I meant it to translate to “way of life” or “life’s path”, but either way, I’ll never stop playing the bass and that’s all I really meant by it!

I found an old Japanese tulip type guitar like this....

    upload_2020-4-22_15-19-18.png

driving to a music store one day. It had gold foil pickups, was far more beat up, neck was warped, someone had spray painted the wood portion flat black, and they had hard wired a lamp electric cord into the jack. I tried to love it, but ended selling if for $50. I also found an original Super Nintendo, several of the old games like Duck Hunt, the light gun, Mario Bros. etc. They all worked last time I looked and had a CRT to try 'em on. I still got those.
The pile was stuff a landlord had found in his rental after the renters had ran off.
