Looks like a fun project! Please tell us more! Details! We need details!
I don't know how many times I have thought of doing the same thing to my Floyd-equipped guitars. Those exposed threads just scream, "UNFINISHED!"

Here's one more. I put it together a couple months ago.
I've changed the pickguard on my Tanglewood to a gold anodized aluminium.
It looks very retro, like an early Danelectro colour scheme.
And I mean that in a good way.
Another blue one.
Here is My 98 Fender MIM Stratocaster in Midnight Blue.

I love blue guitars. Here's a MIJ JGS-78 in gunmetal blue, a Squier Toronado and Fender Meteora in lake placid blue, a MIK Esquire GT in metallic blue, a MIJ Jag-Stang in sonic blue, and an Epi Dot Studio in Pelham blue (With purple racing stripes and some other goofy AVA style stuff).
Oh... I forgot, I can DO this now!
My only blue guitars. Both Sonic Blue.
American Special Strat and VM Jazzmaster
Pics are my 1995 Yako which is currently a work in progress and will post pics when complete.
The guitar was purchased as refinished body but should have been described as an unfinished body. The paint was straight out of the gun (or can) with pronounced orange peel surface which was semi matt.
It took 6 hours of flatting with well used wet and dry - 600 followed by 1200 and finally 2000 grade and a polish up using 'Mothers Mag' aluminium and mag polish to get the finish I wanted.
On my monitor following pics are a good representation of the colour.
Pic 1 - bright daylight.
Pic 2 - subdued light.
