I've owned three '51s in the past, but this sunburst is the one that has stayed with me, and ironically it was the one I paid least for. Sunburst almost stock apart from the pickguard (which was missing when I got it), Bubba Mod on the bridge and a new top nut.

    Paid £41 for it

Upgrades are Bubba mod to the bridge, cover off the neck pup to match the bridge one, and I made a new pick guard. I still need to complete filling the former holes for the pick guard. I like the thickness of the neck, but not totally sold on the pickups. I love sunburst, but wish my body had better matched wood on the front.

I love surf green on these guitars. I've seen a few on this forum over the years. Yours looks particularly nice. If you have more pics of it (close-ups, back etc...) post away.

I love that guard on the burst, probably cost more than the guitar!

I had thought I was doing something unique with the black pg on my 51. Seeing this group, not so much.

It looks good with the black guard, but then again there were limited pickguard options for these, unless you made your own.

GuitarFetish was selling some, which is where I got mine.

I've noticed most of the Blonde ones came with a black guard, but a scattered few came with white like mine did.

I sold mine a few years back but I had a blast modding it.

Thanks. That's when I believed in throwing money at GFS on a regular basis. Wish I still had it. I got it when they were blowing '51s out at $99 when they discontinued them. Upgrades were probably twice as much as the guitar.

    That looks really nice!

Is that gold hardware or is it just the lighting in the picture?

It's gold hardware. I swapped all the hardware for gold, installed gold Wilkinson tuners, gold knobs with pearl insets, gold, top loading bridge, gold lipstick pickup, gold retrotron bridge pickup and a tortoise shell pickguard. If the show existed, it could have been featured on "Pimp My Axe."

Edited to add: Even gold roller trees and gold pickguard screws. I'm embarrassed writing all that out.

    I like the gold!!

Don't see that on a '51 very often.

Read a couple of posts where some player's really don't like the stock pup's in the 51's. Would Rose be able to take care of that? Sure is a cool looking guitar.
