I did my due diligence before buying one, so I heard all about stringing and tuning issues. Boy, they weren’t kidding! I kind of figured it would take twice as long as a six string, but it took longer than I expected. Ended well, though. Didn’t break any strings. Sounds great. Glad I have it.
My 12 banger needs a re-string also. I've been hemming and hawing. Yeah, you need to put away a stack of time ... maybe a good hour of free time with no interruptions. Otherwise, you'll never get it done.
Haha, I’ve had occasions where by the time I got it all restrung, the desire to play has come and gone. For ultimate fun there’s the Rick 12 string with the “R” tailpiece. Horrible.
This is why I use Elixir strings on my 12. I normally dislike coated strings as they feel greasy under my fingers, but they do last longer.
My 12 is a slotted headstock, and a PITA to change the strings. Model1115 by SubSailer671 posted Aug 17, 2019 at 5:03 PM
To me the hardest part is trying to pick just one of the pair of strings without getting both when tuning. Changing the strings themselves isn’t that bad.
Slotted is one thing, but when the slot doesn’t even go all the way through the headstock, just loads of fun
