It's 21 degrees this A.M. Guitar was shipped in state yesterday, should arrive today. How long should I leave it in the box before unpacking it? Thanks in advance!
Prolly double boxed, id take it out of the first box , and let it acclamate to your inside the house. For a few hrs. 6 or 8
Modern poly finishes are tough, open that sucker up unless its a mid to top end acoustic or a nitro finish. I've done it on a couple guitars, zero issues.
I know of some people who let items for up to a week before they touch them, not because of acclimation but rather to allow any virus to become ineffective.
I typically will give the box a couple of hours inside, then open the outer box and let is sit for a couple of more -- probably overkill, as I have also ripped right into one once immediately after I received it, in the middle of winter, w/o issues
I've let them sit several hours before opening and I've also opened them when they showed up with no issue.
I had a lable on mine that said wait 2 to 6 hrs. depending on the conditons where it was coming from. I was at work and my son opened the outer box and by the time I got home it was ready. I would just open the outer box and slide it out and wait another hour or maybe put a space heater in the room. Its kinda cold where I play so I pull my guitar out of the case and it is cold to the touch. I let it sit on the stand for 15 minutes while the space heater brings the room temp up some.
HNGD...firstly.. I'd let it sit for a few hours when you bring it in, if it's in 2 boxes take it out of the outer box. Let it sit away from any heat sources for at least 3 hours. I'm anal with that, I screwed up a guitar that I brought in from the cold and the neck pocket cracked when I tuned it up. Then Tune it up after it's at room temps.
My last two had been sat in trucks for three days coming from Germany in winter. Nothing dropped off, just needed tuning.
Thanks for the replies! I bought a Sterling/EB Albert Lee Model. This one, from a shop across the state: I'll fill you guys in when it arrives...
