In another thread, @Kinnon09 and I started talking a little bit about our old BMX bikes. I posted a picture of me jumping on mine and he said it was a lot like his old bike. So being that a lot of us were the right age age when the BMX craze took over the world in the 70’s and 80’s, I was wondering how many of us still had there old bikes?

Mine started life as a low end Columbia bike that I got for Christmas before I even knew how to ride a bike. Just like I am now with guitars, I had to mod the bike! LOL. It ended up being, and still is, a pretty good BMX bike. It has a fake Mongoose Motomag frame, Race Inc. handlebars, MCS goooseneck. KKT Lightning Bolt pedals, and a Shotgun II seat. The only original part from the Columbia is the nut on the headset.

Here is the photo that started the conversation. My 12 yo called me out. He asked if I would try out the ramp he built and I declined. His response was “what’s the matter old man? Are you scared?” Well I think we all would have reacted the same way and proved him wrong! LOL

Here is a better shot of the just the bike.

So does anyone else still have their old BMX bike from the 80’s?

I was showing my mum today she's like that's your old BMX. I was the lucky one because my mates all got black tyres :p

I wish I had my GT Pro performer. They’re going for like $1500 now. 80s bikes are so cool.

I was trying to find a picture of what my original bike looked like, and I couldn’t find one, but I did find this picture of an old Columbia bike that was very similar to what mine looks like now. Maybe you had one of these? Do you remember what brand it was?

I remember the guy in class who's mum and dad had money would buy him anything he was proper spoiled. This is the same boy that cried like a baby when his dad did not stump up a hover board at Christmas:D:D. he got a better BMX to make up for it and it was all white the tyres grips everything. Wonder if he ever got that hover board:p

This is my older sons bike. He inherited it from my wife’s brother. It’s a true Mongoose Motomag. It’s an 83 or 84. I don’t remember. But we looked the serial number up when we got it. Very cool bike.

Before guitars, music and beer, BMX was life!

I strated out on a Raleigh Extra Burner
    [IMG]

And then progressed onto an Ammaco Freestyle - Ammaco was the sister company of Mongoose, specialising in bikes designed for ramps and tricks rather than racing - cost a small fortune at the time.

Unfortunately I don't have either these days. Still have some scars that I managed to pick up riding them tho.

I remember the late 70s riding in the deserts in Arizona. I don't remember what bike I had but there were several. Those were the days.

Woke up this morning to a message from my mum. Sayings she will never forget that BMX. We did not have a lot of money when I was young. And she payed the bicycle shop every week on a payup book for me to get that.. the things you never thing about when you are wee.

My youngest son had a shed full of BMX bits. I weighed them in when we moved house...

My brother had a top of the line model in the early 90s. It’s in my mom’s garage in San Diego.
