I've wanted a super-strat type guitar for a long time, and finally found one that I think will suit me. I wanted something HSS and not a pointy shred machine, although I do dig other people playing shred-machines.

It's an Ibanez SA160FM in a really nice amber, supposedly in 'great' condition. Looks to be MIK in 2003. Not yet shipped, but I expect it next week. I'm excited to try it out! My only other electric is my bullet tele, so this should be different.

It reminds me of Knopfler's Suhr:

I like the necks on those Ibanez guitars and they can sound very strat-like with the single coils.

    What a great looking guitar!!!
Love the thin body and fast neck too!

I read somewhere that these SA series guitars have thicker necks, but I'm not sure. I have pretty large hands and should be able to get around on it either way.

Well, the guitar arrived on Friday and I played with it for a few days. Beautiful, very comfortable, wonderful neck, nice hot single-coils and a screaming humbucker, but it would not stay in tune, and the floating bridge was a bit finicky. Turns out the knife edges were worn, and the plastic nut a bit mangled. I think it all could have been fixed, but I decided to return it and look for something else with a fixed bridge.

nothing worse than getting excited about a new guitar, and esp one with so much promise and just your second electric, then have it be less than expected because of issues! just totally deflating... will take the GAS right outta ya.

hope you get one that hits all cylinders next time around!

    cheers!

Almost HNGD. I just read your post. I literally have the same guitar. Ibanez SA Series made in Korea. I have no issues with mine. The strings could be stretched if they are new, that could be one of the tuning problems. Some tweaks would of fixed it. Sorry you had to let it go. What did you pay for it?

The necks aren't thick on most Ibanez's especially the SA Series, it's a very comfortable playing neck.

Oh man, too bad you returned it. If those were the only issues they were all very simple fixes! Oh well, next one will be the one.

That guitar is very fixable, he shoulda tried to tweak it...., just my opinion.

Beautiful SA, @Angry Possum. You're right about all of the above - thin and wide extra-comfy neck, and fixable problems. I ultimately decided that I don't want a floating bridge, even though the SA was a nice guitar.
