Epiphone's new headstock and logo design has got me again....and their quality! Heritage Cherryburst, we pay more here in Canada - cost me the equivalent of $833 US with tax and case...but it's amazing....I was blown away by the quality of the 2020 Epiphone TV Yellow Les Paul Special set neck 2 P90 guitar I got last week, so I was tempted again....the necks are very similar but the Special is a bit bigger....

I like big necks and I cannot lie, this neck is also big - .887" at first fret, 1.005" at 12th, 1.708" nut width, 2.128" neck width at 12th fret.....

Congratulations! Have you always been a fan of the Gibson type guitars? Or is this a new interest? I guess because I know you from this forum, I always pegged you as a Fender guy.

This guitar is another beautiful instrument. I would love to have one of those. Epiphone really seems to be stepping up their game. Trying to keep up with the PRS SE line maybe? I guess it doesn’t matter why, in the end it’s good for us!

Good question - and yes they sure have stepped it up, this is why I am okay now with paying over $800 for a made in China guitar and case.....which a few years ago seemed crazy, but remember in like 2016-ish when all guitars went up like 30% or so across the board and never went down again? Yeah....I guess we gotta live in this world now lol

I've always been like the 'classic vintage' kind of guy, wanting guitars both in the style of Fender and Gibson, with looks and sounds like they were from the late 50s to mid 60s......to me it's about the mainstays of vintage rock and blues - the classic guitars we all grew up seeing guys play. And, since I could never afford the Gibson offerings which are like 4X the price of these, I'm ok with it. It's all about the faded late 50s Cherry Les Paul like Slash/Jimmy Page etc etc etc play and played. Theirs faded to an iced tea brown, but that's a story for another day....this is the closest I could get to true vintage.....

I figure with the way 2020 has been, just go for it......

So now I have all bases covered....I think.....I have 5 guitars, listed by longest owned to newest....

Guitar 1 - 2013 Squier Vintage Modified Surf Strat, sonic blue with Fender 57/62's - this is my Classic Vintage Strat Tone guitar.....I consider it to be my version of a '1962 Fender Stratocaster'

Guitar 2 - partscaster with 2009 Squier Deluxe Neck and black SE body, Clapton electronics and mid boost/TBX, and Gold Lace Sensors - this is my late 80s/early 90s Clapton clone, to get his exact tones of the era for under $400 US.....

Guitar 3 - 2017 Squier Deluxe Jazzmaster, hardtail - Candy Apple Red . Okay so it doesn't have a tremolo, but otherwise it's a Jazzmaster through and through, the sound is there - and it has the looks of a 1958 early prototype or production Jazzmaster with the gold anodized pickguard and black pickup covers (I still need to change to chrome Tele knobs and a white/cream 3-way switch tip to get closer to the look, but it's in the works). This thing NAILS Tom Petty sounds, I can get almost 12 string jangle from it....I consider it to be my version of a '1958 Fender Jazzmaster'

Guitar 4 - 2019 Epiphone Inspired By Gibson TV Yellow Les Paul Special - the classic P90 tone we all know and love. Yes, it hums in all 3 switch positions but so did the originals. I consider this to be my version of a '1956 Les Paul Special'

Guitar 5 - 2020 Epiphone Inspired By Gibson Heritage Cherry Les Paul Standard 50s - the classic Alnico II PAF tone, on countless records, and this NAILS it. It's heavy too, and to get the right tone and sustain I think a true Les Paul HAS to be heavy.....I consider this to be my version of a '1958 Les Paul Standard Cherry Sunburst'

@Guitarmageddon Do you think copper shielding the cavities would help the p90 hum in the LP special? I’m sure it’s wires with shielded cable, but I’ve had good luck with copper in my Fender single coils. No experience with shielding Gibsons.

Sounds like you have an awesome lineup of guitars... but how about covering your Telecaster and 335 bases too?;)

Thanks! I think it's just part of it, all the vintage ones did, so I can deal with it - it's more authentic. I'll leave it alone....

I find I can get Tele bridge tones pretty close with a Strat if I pick hard enough and close to the bridge.....and I've tended to stay away from hollow or semi hollow because of the conditions of my apartment - 1920s building with steam heat radiators. I can deal with it for electrics, but I own no acoustic or electric semi or full hollow for that reason. I had a Casino years ago and noticed the top begin to warp just ever so slightly a few thousandths of an inch, which most people would never notice, but I figured it would get worse over time in this environment....and stay in better playing shape with someone else....

A nice addition to your collection.
I too, prefer the tried and true classic sounds, that's how my collection got started, searching for those sounds when I was recording more.
I just keep looking for different sounds....
    Enjoy your new guitars

Really really nice one that is. Now you need to take it outside so we see the full glamour Kodachrome colors.

HNGD! It's certainly one of the most beautiful Les Pauls I've ever seen!

Gorgeous Fall colors! Its looks matches the season (or it's Autumn that compliments your guitar) !
