My two were perfectly seven days from each other in the first two weeks of Jan 1984. One was a black with three pickups and the other was black with two buckers.

Yes, they are little divots in the plastic pickguard.

Looks a lot like mine, though I have the hardtail version... Stays in tune for weeks. How does your trem hold up?

When people talk about necks to die for,, those are what they are talking about.. a solid chunky style louisville slugger..
    Congratulations on a great guitar!..

Mine's not a valuable SQ series, or nearly as nice as the ones above. It's not original, with alnico replacement pups, including Tele bridge in a custom guard. Has a few cosmetic flaws, but I'm pretty happy considering it was only $80 with a Fender gig bag! Another example of a pawn shop throwing a cheap price on it because the head stock says Squier...

Since the photos were taken, I've cleaned it up more and added proper knobs.

This was my very first Squier. The friendly help I got from others on this site was a great welcome and I've been here ever since. Now have 3 MIJ ones and a couple of E7 MIKs. 100_7306.jpg Bullet (vertical).jpg

Nice axe! The hard tail is probably better for keeping it in tune. But this one is no worse than any of my other guitars. Play a tune or two and tune up.

Thanks! Yeah, the hard tail is nice and solid, but it sure would be nice to add some light trem here and there. Maybe I'll just have to keep my eye out for another :)

73rhc - Just curious, does your guitar cancel hum in positions 2 and 4?

I might need a new nut. A and D strings jump out of the nut when bending anywhere near the first five frets. How's yours?

Strange! I get hum all the way through, and it's definitely all stock, nothing has been tampered with. Not sure what's up.

I'm far from being an expert. But sounds like a grounding issue. Does the pick guard gave grounding tape on the reverse side?

+1 on looking at grounding (but I don't think those had any grounding on the PG underside). Even though it's "stock", stuff happens over 33 years. My guess is that it's going to be something simple and easy to rectify.

nice score... Squier Bullet S-3 hardtail SQ 4-bolt are nice.. there are 3-bolt version.. but since i have a 4-bolt, i am bias towards 4-bolt... hahaha.

73rhc, your Bullet S-3 sunburst looks very nice, did it come with the original US Fender hardcase? mine did but the previous owner must smoke like it was going out of style.. i had to do many techniques to clear the smell away.

This is my lone 84' Squier Bullet S-3

I really can't see it being a grounding issue, regardless of shielding, positions 2 and 4 should realistically cancel or "buck" any hum. In fact, those positions are even louder than 1,3,5. I've looked under the hood, and the wiring is all perfect, even tested with a multimeter to be sure. Anyway, not a huge deal for me, I still love the way it sounds and plays - even if I have to sit or stand facing a weird corner to detract hum :)
