I picked this up during the great PAS sale of ‘22. I loved the Gibson scale and the pots/treble roll off was light years beyond most of my Fenders, let alone Squiers. Anyway, I wasn’t a huge fan of the trem, and I hated the pickups. I didn’t get too crazy here, I added a pair of slightly used Tex Mex pickups, a GF tremolo, pickguard off the eBay and a set of tuners I pulled from an old 90s FotoFlame. I think it came out pretty good for basically parts I already had lying around. 0B6606EF-9C6A-4F04-BA71-10F8D755B0C0.jpeg AE3E2EE8-73AC-42BB-A28B-1140B8EFDC97.jpeg EB3612C2-4875-4DDA-A9B4-DCFB90C31ECC.jpeg

Cool, now play the hell out of it !

I have been! Before I changed the pickups, I added a set of half rounds to try and tame the trebly response I was getting. It helped a bit but with the Tex Mex's, man this thing is my new go to for Sabbath covers. Haven't put it down in weeks.

I had one of these come through a few weeks ago where I put in one of these plates and five way oak grigsby switch for a Stratocaster switching layout.

EY Marr Switch

Might be worth trying if you find the multiple switches a handful: You lose the neck + bridge and all three on, but the Stratocaster player who brought it in preferred that to trying to switch from neck to bridge using the multiple switches, when playing live. That said he's coming back for a "Gilmour mod" as he misses the neck + bridge combination...

The cheap one I got from EY only needed minor adjustment to the pickguard with files but the switch cavity need a bit of routing for the Oak switch due to the thin body-an import box switch might be better idea. A cheap, fun mod and easily reversed.

Very cool @Upstater looks nice.
I have a white Cyclone with tortoise shell modded to be humbucker only.
Have a pic? The swimming pool rout is so great on these. Wish there was a bit more selection of aftermarket pickguards though (or licensed bodies).

Thanks for this idea. I think if I Gilmour’d it for the neck/bridge combo this switch would look perfect. I found that combo on the stock set up to sound pretty good and better with the Tex-Mex. The pickguard on mine required a bit of work as well but decent quality outside of that.

Not sure if you know about this eBay seller, but he sells custom pickguards for Cyclones:

I bought a mint green one customized for a Tele bridge pickup, I just haven't installed it yet.

Man, I think I’d like to see that. I did come across this seller though, it’s actually where I grabbed mine. That said, I’ve been thinking of possibly going full Gibson with mine with a set of humbuckers I have lying around in my basement. That swimming pool rout is the gift that keeps on giving with these.
