I ordered this 2020 Epiphone TV Yellow Les Paul Special May 12. I was told it wouldn't come in until end of August. Lets just say I was pleasantly surprised when the store called me yesterday.

Here's the obligatory car porn for now.

    Very curious thing happened.

Yesterday, when I got home I gave it a proper first tone test.

Pickups were very high, but so was the action. A lot of power from the P90's, but no definition at all. I was REALLY disappointed. I compared with my other P90s and told myself I must be tired, my ears aren't working well. But no, they all sounded like good P90's and the new ones were really shitty. I'm freakin' out ! !

I gradually adjust the P90's down, but I never find what I expected. Fvck ! I can't believe it's because of the strings, usually described as horrible on a new Epiphone. They play OK.

I'm going to lower the bridge anyway, it's uncomfortable even for a test, really. 1½ complete turn on both bridge post ! Yes, it was THAT high. It might even go down a bit more tomorrow, but it'll do for now.

I've lowered the action so much that the bridge P90 is literally stuck to the strings. I readjust the pickups down, I plug it in ... the sky opens and the angels sing!

    What was that ?
    I'm ecstatic.

How is it that a too high bridge influences the tone so much, even with the pickups adjusted at the same distance from strings?

By the way, unplugged, this one really resonates in the mids.

Apart from action and pickups badly needing attention, only two tiny negatives.

One of the knobs was loose on the shaft (I'm surprised it was still on it). Easily remedied.
I'm not a fan of those tiny top hats, they're too slippery for my big hands.

Frets are well done. The ends would profit from a little smoothing but it is comfortable to play as is. I only feel it when I run a fingertip on them. 3 frets were a tad high, really not much. I tapped them down. One remains a micron high but doesn't affect playing at all. It'll stay like that.

The new P90 Pro are great. I'd say a little more aggressive than the previous model.
    Intonation is 100% spot on.
Fit and finish is all-around pretty good, nothing specific stands out.
The neck ... that neck is sublime. Nice 50's rounded shape. THE main reason why I got this guitar.

It rounds up the P90 harem. The chase has now ended for the P90 ideal guitar. I might sell ones that will get less play.

If you want one of the best P90 guitars out there, this is the one to get.
