My SC101s aren’t very Quacky and don’t sound like what you’re wanting in a tone. I’ve used the Guitarmadness 62z set that got me to where you are talking about. I put them in a cheap Squier SE and it was that 60ish tone you’re wanting.
I’ll see if this is the case for me in a few weeks, they’re on their way and I’m putting them in an SE, too. I find my MiM Fender HSS more “stratty” than my HSS VM strat, too. But it’s not WAY off.

and real bone nuts really make a difference in the top end of any and all guitars they equip....as well as heavier blocks on strats regardless of actual manufacture
No they don't. And bone nuts obviously could only possibly make a difference on open notes as it is impossible for them to have any influence whatsoever on a fretted not. Even then the difference would be unpredictable from guitar to guitar. And of course heavier blocks don't make one bit of difference to the sound since they have no role whatsoever in the ringing of the strings between the bridge saddles and where they are being fretted. And again, it would not be predictable from guitar to guitar if it did. Lastly, some really crappy plywood S-type guitars in the 90s had massive blocks. You really want to argue that they sound better than the slightly less heavy USA Strats?

It's all about reducing string friction on the nut. Bone, Tusq or roller nut, as in the case of my '94 Stratocaster Plus.
I prefer the big block trems over the thin stock Squier blocks, only because the ball end of the strings seat way up in the block on the thin ones & can get lodged. I've had to use a jewelers screwdriver to free up the string end on occasion.

If it bothers you don’t look.
What's the point of resurrecting a thread from someone who hasn't posted anything since Sept. 2020, and is about a guitar discontinued in 2018? There are far more relevant things to talk about than the vastly overrated DD SC-101 pickups, which Seymour had NOTHING to do with, other than using his label to boost their cred. There's plenty of far better affordable alnico Strat pickups which are readily available now.

i would like to point out, necroposting is an eventuality in any forum. There will always be somebody coming along, drilling down to find a post that interests them, and replying to it without checking the post dates. The thread may be current or the person may just be bringing a thread back from the dead. Let's all be civil before this thread gets locked.
BTW, I am not aware of any forum rule that says necro-posting is not allowed.

Evidently there’s a point or he wouldn’t have looked. Just leave it alone already.

okay guys I started this , I'm the designated necromancer of this thread... I feel I have to explain why. This site's software likes to group similar topics... we recently (2022) discussed another "not Stratty enough for a Strat, no matter what/ what pickups/what amp/why etc" thread that was current. The software grouped the topics and pushed this thread to "trending" because, well. And yes I did not look at the date- but I personally had strange surprises with delayed responses that really did solve some problems I still had- "three years down the line".
Now yeah if it's a problem and a rule that should be enforced- so be it! Sometimes the algorithm is triggered by a "like" given on old posts that one gets to read years later. In my mind if I really appreciated something, it's still valid- even if the discussion happened long before I was around- and I guess the same goes for a lot of people. The algorithm is a simple "machine"- it sees activity (the like in question) - it resurrects the thread and pushes it back to the top of the stack. Sees you looking for a similar topic- proposes the resurrected thread to you.... and so it goes.

It's kind of hard to tell for sure, but it looks very much like these covers were played on a VM 70s strat which sounds pretty stratty imho.
I haven't got a clue concerning the amp / effects that were used alongside the guitar, though.

Very cool!
Please, don't apologize ! I usually like it when old threads are resurrected. It is often a good opportunity to learn something new... or old... or kind of "New Old Stock"... well, you get my point ! 😊😅😂

Sometimes I even come across something that our dear Guitarmaggedon has written. It makes me sad-because-I-miss-him-but-happy-to-think-about-him at the same time. I don't know if you feel the same?
