    I like the term "well loved", lol... Yeah, I'm sure ALL of us would want to see and hear it... And the story that goes along with it... You SHOULD do a video... Every single video I've done has just been with my phone... And for the last few, I snagged one of those L.E.D. light strips and just made a couple rows on the wall opposite of where I film... Worked out okay, but I ordered bright white lights and that's exactly what I got... They're cool... And bright, but kinda sterile... Been thinkin about gettin a camera and a decent ring light if I'm gonna continue making videos...

    Not by any stretch of th imagination tryin to 'top' nobodies story, esp a fellow Vet's, but this kinda seemed like an ok place to share one o mine: hope y'all don't mind too awful much...

    I gots me an acoustic that traveled with me/entertained many K folks, both mil an local indiginuous, many places CONUS, Sicily, Lampedusa, Rota, Shannon, Holy Loch, Diego Garcia, Sasebo, Yokusaka, PI, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Haiti, Adak, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq...

    Cumulatively, she actually has exponentially more miles, an scars than th Battle Flags I have took with/brought home do, individually...;)

    Needless to say, she's 'A Keeper' :cool:

    *Pictures may be enhanced to show texture of grain... Lol...

    And as for the actual color of it... I'm glad that I went with the "Golden Pecan"...
    IMG_20200111_152845484.jpg

    Exactly what I was goin for... Not "ambered" out, and not Stark white... These pics were taken right as the 14th coat of Tru-Oil was about to go on... Best I can figure, I'm almost halfway there... Countin on a TON of thin coats... And I guess it's not about how much ya put on, it's how much ya keep on, lol... Even though it's Tru-Oil, I'll be buffin it out to a high gloss (or close to it, hopefully)...

    Then it's on to paintin the headstock black, (got some good RustOleum 2X) then a lil spray poly, then I'll have to figure out how to attach my vinyl headstock decals, then lastly, buryin the decal in poly, and the only thing that leaves is the input jack... I'll have to wait to order that, and the bwb HH pickguard (IF I decide to get one) til payday...

    Well, there's things that change daily, lol... Actually, it looks like we're ALL gonna get a couple extra day's worth of action;
    After I did the 13th coat (OF COURSE!) I rubbed it down with steel wool, made double SURE all of it was cleaned off, then put on my 14th coat... And just as I was gettin it done, the neck slipped off the blocks and landed RIGHT on the shop towel underneath it... Which was COVERED in steel wool, lol... So now, I've got a fuzzy steel wool finish, lol... Gonna wait til mornin then sand it down till I get all that crap out... Baby butt it, and go "One 'mo gin!", Lol...

    Well, I recovered from "The Curse Of The 13th Coat" or "The Steel Wool Fiasco" pretty well, lol...

    Got it all out, then applied the 16th coat with 1000 grit sandpaper...

    If I wanted a "natural" finish I would've stopped a LONG time ago, lol... I want a lil gloss on this one...

    But my 20th coat is dryin currently... I'm gonna give it til mornin to dry, but I'm thinkin I'm JUST about there...

    I've had some issues with the Tru-Oil "damming up" against the frets, because I usually do pretty thick coats, but I figure that'll get handled when I wetsand everything... I wanted to make sure there wasn't any unfinished grain on the fretboard, and it does look glossy and covered now...

    In the morning, I'll give her a good rubdown with steel wool and see where we're at... Hopefully, after I get it smooth, I may do JUST a couple more thin coats, and that should do it...

    Did you know you can bury decals in Tru-Oil? Lol, evidently you can... I bought a can of spray poly for that very thing, but now I'm kinda wondering if I shouldn't have went with nitro/lacquer... I just HATE waitin for lacquer to cure! Lol... Oh well, as always, we'll cross that bridge when we get there and see...

    Lol, sweet! I name just about all my guitars... But I usually let THEM tell me what, lol... "Golden Pecan" is pretty funny, cause then guys would be fighting on here about whether it's pronounced "Pah-kahn" (how I and a LOT of Southerners say it) or "Pee-Can", lol...

    But seriously...

    I know it's a black guitar, but the Wilkinson chopped half Tele bridge is gold... The custom "Chris Key" "HELLACASTER" decal is gold... And the neck is Golden Pecan...

    So, maybe "Goldy" ain't a bad name for this lil lady, lol...

    Lol... "Goldy Rocks"

    Black Wilky & trim rings is a nice touch from the Hellacaster Custom Shop. The neck was a ton of work, but it'll be worth the wait.

    I think she'll always be the Golden Pecan to me.... It's kinda classy in a way - gold and all. And pecan is rather common sounding, so it's a nice contrast. Although if you think of it as "The Golden Pee-can" it's not that flattering, I have to admit. Maybe "Goldy" is solid middle ground. But what's better than a slice of pecan pie and a cup of black coffee?

    What you just said... Lol... NOT MUCH in this universe is better than a slice of homemade pecan pie and some nice dark roast coffee... And up till about 9 months ago, a cigarette after, lol... Damn that sounds good, hoss! But I LOVE the analogy!

    I'm REALLY happy with how this neck is turnin out... You can see the difference in the completely raw headstock and the finished fretboard...
    At first, I was a lil worried... Like I said, it was kinda gunkin up around the frets, and I was concerned that maybe all the wood wasn't covered yet... But, after 20 coats, if it ain't covered, it ain't EVER gonna be, lol...

    So this mornin I gave it a good run down with 0000 steel wool, payin close attention to the fretboard, and Whew, doggies! It's niiiice, lol...

    There's just a couple spots with some VERY slight drips/runs, but I'm confident I can handle those... And even those spots are just baby smooth...

    The neck FEELS amazing... JUST what I was goin for... Like I've mentioned, my "Number One" ('97 MIM Squier Strat) has a gloss finish, and I know most guys around here don't dig gloss on a neck, but I do... As long as it isn't TOO thick and sticky... And this neck is JUST right for me... It's like a traditional gloss, but thinner... You can actually still feel the shape of the grain underneath...

    So after 20 coats, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna call this one done...

    Now, I've gotta figure out exactly how I'm gonna paint this headstock... I've never painted a THING, as far as I can remember... I DID spray my first clear coat about 3 months ago... But as far as spray painting, I'm a complete noob, lol... And as such, of course I've got a couple questions;

    I plan on taping everything off, and spraying RustOleum black... Then a couple coats of spray poly over the black... Then applying my decals, and lastly a few more coats of spray poly to bury the decals...

    But, when I spray the black, how many coats should I do? I was thinkin maybe 3... And after the black paint is on, you don't wet sand JUST the paint, right? Spray the black, let it dry well, then wet sand the POLY, right?

    Hope I've got this straight, cause everything else sure is comin together nicely!
