Hello everybody! My first guitar was a squier strat and 25 years later and many guitars in the way i finally return to this...its an affinitty indonesia 2001 strat, i change the bridge for a wilkinson vintage and the pickups for wilkinson alnico 5 vintage (i noticed that form factory have a alpha 250k pot for the volume and alpha 500k pots for tones, i put a fender original 5 way switch and make the standart wiring with the bridge pup tone mod) bone nut and tuners on the way and a friend gift me the monogram blue strap!!! i really happy with the results looks and sound beautiful...

First) Welcome to Squier-Talk!

Second) Y'know sumthin? You've JUST reminded me that using a 250k pot plus 500k pot means the effective total load on the pup(s) is 187.5k. 2x 250k pots are 125k total load, 2x 500k pots = 250k total load, and 2x 330k = 165k tl load. Hmm, 330 + 500 = 830 / 4 = 207.5.

This means the 250+500 has a bit more load than the usually more expensive 2x330.

I personally prefer swapping my pots for 500k for any single coils. I'm also thinking of trying 1M pots for my humbucker equipped guitars.

In the past I've assumed that I'd prefer all linear pots, but have since recently realized that audio or log taper sounds better to me on tone pots, or more specifically I get a wider spread of usable tone action on log pots than on linear.

Only thing left for me to determine in the case of mixed pots is which is better to put the bigger pot on the volume or tone.

Thanks for this...i think that sounds very good so the mix of 250k volume + 500k for two tones seems to be ok...and the cap was an 0.047uf

Hello from Reading Pennsylvania. Nice looking strat. I am going to be sorting my pots similarly. Right now I have all 500ks in a strat with GM62z in it. I love the clarity and chime but the bridge is a little shrill. I shall find the happy medium with time and experimentation.

Welcome to the Squier Happy Place! Classy tux guitar! The 250+500 is unique sounding, to be sure. I have seen factory defaults from 250+250, to 250+500 to 500+500, all on single coils, with caps ranging from 0.047 uF to.. 0.1 uF. Each combo has its signature sound...
