I got to thinking tonight (which is always dangerous) about the different guitar brands I own.

I counted them up and at present I’m lucky enough to have 11 different brands floating around the house.

Are you brand loyal or do you believe guitar variety is the spice of life?

For sure my own builds but that doesn’t count.
Gretsch is leading then I’d say Fender and “ SQUIERS” have an edge over Gibsons, although I only own two Squiers and no fenders and 4 Gibsons, I think I am just a single coil type guy and Gibson never made anything that sounds like a telecaster :p

I wonder if you might get along with a Gibson Challenger III or a Gibson All American II

Variety, but not huge... have a couple Squiers, three Epiphones, a Fender, a Brian May, and and old Harmony...no duplicates of any model. Got my bases covered, and GAS is nonexistent...for now...have a Bullet Strat, a Bronco bass, Epi acoustic and LP and a Wildkat, a Fender Thinline Tele, BMG Special, and a ‘64 Harmony Silhouette...am set unless I hit the lottery...time for some pedals, perhaps, didn’t tell my lady love I wouldn’t buy pedals ;)

Squier is my favorite because of the price/quality, but Fender makes some really nice stuff. Never had enough time with a Gibson to decide either way. I love the sound and look of Gretsch guitars but they just feel awkward to my hands.

Lots of variety for me. Played a fender strat exclusively for 20+years but now have barely played a fender type in 5 years. Only own 2 fenders and 4 squires. Thought Gibson's were insanely overpriced most of that time but now own 3. Turns out the budget models are a pretty good value. Only 2 epiphones and 1 will be going soon. A selection of rondo copies and a recent firefly semihollow. The fairly recent face for a few years is the epi casino coupe. Just right for the small stage classic rock gig. For just the last few months it's been the gibson lp cm for harder rock. Dont really love it but it's been good for what I'm doing now.
    So pretty diverse.
Oh and a washburn firebird and various acoustics

    Squier - 10
    Epiphone- 2
    Agile - 2
    Ibanez - 2
    Bradley - 2
    Gibson - 2
    Ovation- 2
    Jackson - 1
    Kramer - 1
    Rock Axe - 1
    Parker - 1
    Huntington-1
    Fender - 1
    First Act - 1
    Fret light - 1
    Starcaster - 1
    Jay Turser - 1
Then I have 2 parts guitars, 1 kit guitar, and one unbranded Les Paul type.

So based on the count, Squier would be my favorite, and I guess they are my favorite to buy. But that is because of their combined price, quality, and availability on the used market. My favorite brand is Gibson. But I can’t afford to buy 10 of those ! LOL

I don't have a favourite brand.. I have favorite guitars based on their merits, the name on the headstock is irrelevant.

Honestly no rhyme or reason to what guitars I own. I don't have anything considered collectable other than for my own satisfaction . Its kind of a Heinz 57 collection...:D

I guess I am brand loyal, Im slightly partial to my Ibanez Guitars, as i have around 10 or so. However I also have many types of guitar brands. Cort, Godin, Greco, Harmony, New Home-Builds, Franken-Squiers, Franken-Strats, Hamer, Dean, Fender Telecaster Japan, Epiphone, Squier, Shecter, First Act, Chibson, etc. Any guitar that plays nice and sounds nice for well under $300 is a guitar for me. As some here know, I have many, probably 47 by now.

No, I'm not brand loyal -- at least not in the sense of limiting my guitars (or even my guitar preferences) to a single maker.

Unlike some, I am very fond of Gibsons. I own four, each a different type. An ES, a traditional Les Paul (those are both from the `80s), an SG and a Les Paul "CM."

Squiers outdo that in number, and their value/quality quotient is to me still tops.

Because of that Squier value and quality I only currently have one actual Fender. An American standards Tele.

Epis a bunch -- bought, again, for their value/quality. None of mine is fantastic, but all are more than good. And each of them is/was a total bargain.

Then there are the one ofs. One Martin, one Yairi, one Danelectro, etc.

    And... YEAH! ... my Supros.

If I am partial to any maker right now it is Supro. For their wonderfulness, their rarity and equally because the company treated me like no other maker ever did. Solved a "problem" with a guitar on an extraordinary level -- right from the very top -- and made a good guitar and unbelievably good guitar.

But common or rare each of the above is a worthy instrument.

Price means something, but not, frankly, all that much. Not when it comes to playability, musicality, or anything of great importance.

MY three VM Squiers are all truly wonderful instruments.

I think in the same vein as @Jes Woodland.

Does a guitar do what I expect it to do, or at least what I want it to after working it over?

My favoritism begins and ends there. From a bigger money boutique down to a $59.99 pawn store special, no brand is special and this same standard is applied.

Value/price for quality, first and foremost. I have not paid more than $500 for any guitar (and only ONE at that price). A number retailed for more than that new, and at least two would sell for more than that now.

Since getting the CV Starcaster, and VM Fretless Bass... Squier’s are up to 7 (4&5 string Dimension Basses, 2014 ‘51, VM SS Jag bass, and Bullet Strat) making Squier the current top brand again (I was down to three Squier’s a couple years back), three Fenders (Strat & Tele MIM, and Uke), Two Epi’s (DOT, and 339 Ultra), two Harley Bentons (Guitarbass, and ‘51 Bass copy), two Rogue’s (Resonator, and mandolin). Everything else is singles: Yamaha, Seagull, Martin, Hofner (Bass) Sawtooth, C&G, Grote, G&L, Ibanez, and a Conrad (Bass).
I had a Tele build in the wings, but the C&G Tele knocked that out. Of the above, almost all are staying stock, two need repairs, C&G Tele is getting Rose pups, and possibly a Sawtooth neck.

Currently, these are all in the keeper category.

    *edit*
Yes... that puts me back at 26, again, but it’s the first time ever for 26 “keepers”.

I am low on cases though, I sold off a dozen things in the last year, all with cases/bags, so I’m about six short.
