Hi Squier Talkers,

I have recorded a new video for my channel where I and a friend review the Classic Vibe 70s thinline telecaster. I thought this might be interesting for you fellow Squier devotees! Please do check it out and join the conversation.

I would above all be fascinated to hear your opinions on the CV70s. Especially on the quality of the Indonesian-built Classic Vibe guitars compared to the Chinese-built Classic Vibes.

The general conclusion that can be drawn from our conversation in this video is that (based on the evidence from this one guitar) the workmanship and quality control was of a higher standard coming out of the Chinese Classic Vibe factories than coming out of the Indonesian factories.

That said (as you can hear in the video) the pickups on this guitar sound super cool and have a really gritty dirt to them that I love.

Please do let me know what your thoughts are on the evolution of the Classic Vibe series and the outsourcing of its production to Indonesia.

Thanks for listening and happy Squier Talking!

Great video. I'm happy to throw you a sub as well.

I have a CV 50 strat from the early runs from China. It has some of the best workmanship I've ever seen on a guitar. From your video it looks like this thinline has some QC issues. I guess they can't compare to the early days of the Chinese CVs.

Love to see some pics of your CV50s strat. What color is it?
I love the early CV runs. Such great quality. It really feels like the Indonesian CVs are not up to the same standards.

Forgot one, the LPB one with matching headstock, so here’s them all together :) View attachment 251512
Wow! What a fabulous collection!!
I absolutely adore the CV 50s and 60s strats.
The next big addition to my collection will definitely be an early run CV 50s in fiesta red. I remember seeing one in a music shop in the early days of CV and loving the color. The red has an almost shell pink sheen to it. It's quite remarkable.

Yes, Fiesta red is one of my favourite colors ever, it would be a dream to get one of the early ones in that Color! Hope you’ll find one some day :)

I bought the CV70s Thinline back around Labor Day. I don’t have anything else to compar to but it did have some QC things. Couple bad tuners, warped pick guard, and screws drilled in crooked on about half the pick guard holes.

I liked the bridge pickup but the neck was way muddy to me. I ended up swapping them and a new guard for one with filtertrons and put a Bigsby on it for a “Gretschcaster.”

I had a Sweet 2012 CV Mahogany Thinline Tele. The Ribbon Stripes looked almost as nice as my 1985/1986 Fender Japan Mahogany Thinline. I am a Fool because both are gone! 😭
Very interesting. In 2012 were they still being made in China?
And interesting comparison with 80s Japanese Squiers.
It's very much my opinion that the early Chinese CVs will one day be as revered as the Japanese JV era guitars. It seems that something just clicked in both series and the factories were turning out guitars as good as their ten-times-the-price peers.

I sat on that Japanese one for 20 years! It stayed mostly in my early 90's Red Label Case. The only thing they skimped on was the thin Wiring. I might have made a hundred on it, but I have Case still! I think CV was China in 2012, but I had a VM Tele Special same year and that might have been Indonesian? Sweet White Blond with Jazzmaster Neck and Duncan Designed JM Pickup in Neck. Was over 9 lbs. so got parted out for some Profit! They have doubled in Resale!

I've got two earlier MIC CV Teles (2009 and 2010), and one MII CV Thinline Tele (2022). Plus, I've played a lot of the early MIC CV's, and quite a few of the recent MII ones.

It's pretty obvious to me that the early first-run MIC Teles and Strats are definitely better than the more recent MII ones. YMMV

Thanks so much for chiming in. That confirms my theory as well.
It's nice to think that there may now be a second golden era in the Squier timeline, to rival the legendary fujigen era!

Not sure about that. I recently got two of the Indonesian CV’s (60’s Thinline and 50’s BSB Tele) and both are really nice guitars. Hard to imagine how they could be much better. The Thinline has become my most played electric.
