Correct, I am also doing some research myself for an Affinity I bought a while back, and going through Tony Bacons book, Squire Electronics, China became involved around 95 followed by Indonesia a year later.
He does go on to say however...
The Chinese deals were made through Reliance, based in Taiwan, which had set up factories across China.
The first Chinese factory that Fender used for Squier was Yako, based in Zhangzhou in south east China.
Yako was set up in 1993 and company records show they received their first Squier order in May of 1995 for 2000 Squiers, (known variously as the Bullet, Traditional and Affinity model)

Maybe definitely not... Any consistent proof about it?

You should take a look at fender website, for NC4 and CN4 S/N they reports dating problems (so it doesn't mean the "4" is for 1994). The squier book states without any doubts it started in 1995.

You are correct. Mao's forces defeated those of Chang Kai Shek in 1949. Chang and his forces fled to Taiwan where they set up a democratic government which the USA has sworn to protect. The Chinese, however, view Taiwan as a renegade province which they would love to take over. Now, back to Squiers...:)

Stradovarious-"We do tend to generalize, I think people are referring to geographical areas though, as in "North America" which includes two distinct and separate Countries with separate governments too".

Uh, better make that THREE distinct countries: Canada, United States, and Mexico. All of which comprise NORTH America.

    I have seen a 92. I just cannot remember if it is a 'YN' or an 'NC'. I have 'NC4', 'NC6', 'NC7' from'94, '96 &'97 respectively. I have never seen a 'NC' from '93 or '95. I have seen a 'YN5' from '95.

Is anyone still interested in this channel? My Brother In Law just gave me a near mint condition Red NC4. He bought it in the 90's and played it a couple of times and then it was closet bound. Stored in the original case he purchased with it. It is in awesome condition and just needs a good setup. I haven't played it yet. I was just doing some research on it and found this channel.

They are made in China & also bad guitars. They are Chinese toys. The string trees popped out, strings are too thin, cable jack comes loose, bad tuners, no tremolo arm spring & no owner maintenance instructions. They play but I have 'nothing good to say about them. China trying to make a Western Spanish guitar. Not okay, last Fender I buy.

That's completely incorrect.....the string thickness is based on personal preference, who on earth expects factory strings or strings on a used guitar to be the right gauge for you?! Cable jack can be tightened....no treml arm spring is on 100% of Squier products.....

You've made a totally off base senseless post....

Did you even try to set it up? Do you even KNOW how to set one up?

I swear ... it wasn't me who brought up this 2010 thread.

NC4 is an exceptional guitar. Full body thickness with deep pool cavity route. Probably one of the best guitars to mod.

I have 13 NC's ... Made in the Republic of China in Taiwan at the famed Yako factory. Did you know Yako is building $1000+ Les Pauls for Fernandez and Burny ??? The NC's are superb guitars.

It's ok you don't like them. That leaves more for me. :)

I have two of these NC4 serial guitars.
I agree the tuners are bad - they are not lasting the full 25 years. The body is great and proper wood. The neck is a really comfortable profile with a full 43mm nut. The Trem block is big and heavy. Pickups are good enough for the non pro player, but the pots are better with a change to 250k. The switch is an Oak Grigby copy and works really well as long as you occasionally tighten the centre screw. There is absolutely NOTHING that I dislike about these guitars and if I could find more I would buy them.
I can only assume you have never owned one that is properly set up.
