So my modded ts-808 clone build did not have gut shots because, well, I made a mess of it. It works, it just isn’t something I’d ever want to show off.
This one I’m ok showing off... it’s an Arcadia Electronics Bluesbreaker clone. I think they’ve discontinued these, but I got it off Ebay and the bill of materials is still on their website.
The interesting thing about this is it came with 4 Shotsky ( I think I spelled that right) diodes. I read about these, just never thought about getting them. The BOM for this build says it uses 4 1N1418 diodes, but when I opened the package, there they were. It also has a mod option under the tone pot to use LED clipping. I put them in and also put two wires in the jumper spot so I could add a switch for those later.
I also used a big pink LED instead of the little red one it came with. The enclosure I got from Ebay too, but if I get another one like this, I think I’ll just go with the Arcadia enclosure. The holes were a little bit of a pain to line up on the sides, even with the template, and I’ll have to use some washers to cover that mess up.
    Anyway, here’s some pics...

I only got to plug it in just to make sure it works, but the few riffs and chords I did play all sounded fantastic!!! Very nice mild OD

Nice job! I love building pedals. Judt wait till you discover Veroboard.... Then your world of pedal possibilities will open up wide!

I’m really liking this pedal stacking so far!! The BB OD sounds great by itself for a low gain pedal, very nice even breakup, but it also makes the 808 sound even better than it does by itself without getting out of hand. It can really drive it!!

Just had another fun project with my daughter... we sticker bombed this pedal!!! And while I was at it, I went ahead and wired it for the LED mod, so we’ll see how that sounds.

    Hey Rbh32,

Sorry to resurrect an old post, but I'm currently building this exact kit myself and came across this page. I'm currently having problems with LED clipping mod though! Like you I have wired a switch so it can be turned on and off but when I turn it on I lose about 90% of the volume. Just wondering if you had to do anything else to make this mod work other than connecting the jumper pad and soldering the 2 LED's in place?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    Sam (first time pedal builder)

honestly, the LED mod didn’t work at all for me.. the switch turned the pedal off.. so I had to rehouse it and clip the switch out of it.
it SHOULD give more volume in LED mode, because the regular Bluesbreaker is notoriously lacking in volume by itself.

I don't know the circuit, but could the problem be because of the type of LED? They have different transfer curves, especially between different colours.

Thanks for the reply guys :) interesting to hear you had the same problem RBH, maybe this part of the schematic is just not that well designed. I have been in touch with Arcadia the supplier about this and they supplied me with the schematic to help trouble shoot the problem, thought I would share it just in case anybody was interested.

    Awesome!!
I don’t have this pedal anymore, but I do still have their OpAmp Big Muff clone on my board, and it’s pretty cool that they would try to help out if anything did happen..
