Some of you may remember my build thread of the "AstroCaster" a while back:
    https://www.squier-talk.com/threads/astrocaster-build.157077/

Well, I sold it to a guy that wouldn't take no for an answer, so I've decided to build another, with a few changes. My plan is to simplify the design with fewer components and a cleaner, sleeker design. I want the the two main shapes to stand out, with no extra bits and colors to distract the eye. Only 2 P90's this time; the middle 3rd one just kinda got in the way. No silver & black whammy, just an all black string-thru hardtail bridge; 3 black knobs (one is a rotary pickup selector), and the jack is moving to the lower edge.

I've been playing with the design on the computer, and here's the look I'm after:

I'm also doing a belly cut this time, and possibly a new headstock shape.

The neck will again be tinted maple, but the body will be Spanish cedar instead of Alder, in the same body color.

    That’ll be a fine piece.

That’s a very cool design. Clean lines, somehow retro and futuristic at the same time. Nice attention to detail on both. How much? :)

I like how the pick guard is kinda shaped like a . . . pick.

...exactly my intention. And the rest of the body shape is the intersecting reverse of that shape.

I thought the first one couldn't be outdone, but looking at the second version you did it. Very clean indeed! Looking forward to seeing it done.

Oh yeah, I can understand why the guy wouldn't take no for an answer too.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. That is, these are, my favorite builds I’ve ever seen here. I liked the original headstock, I think it fit the design perfectly.

I planned on using a set of Epi P90s that I had in my parts box, but I got my stimulus payment today, so hello Jason Lollar!

Lollars arrived today, built by Will Collins. I'm pretty excited since I've never owned a set before. Here's the unboxing:

Cool. Those pickups look the business, and Will looks like the right guy to build 'em!

I'm sad that I must have been on hiatus during that original build thread, but that's a great looking guitar and I think would succeed as a production model, awesome job and I'll be following the new one!

Got the Spanish Cedar body blank today, and the first time I'll be using it. From what I read, it's neither Spanish nor cedar, but a relative of the mahogany family, often used for cigar boxes. It's supposed to be somewhat lighter weight than mahogany, and smell like cedar when cut or machined.

I loved your first design too. This next version looks great as well. I always like watching you build.

The WD neck finally arrived today after a couple of USPS delays. It's a nicely tooled maple/maple board, with symmetrical grain and a walnut plug at the headstock. The fret ends though, need some major work- they're just rough-filed and quite sharp. No problem; I'm gonna fix them and roll the fretboard edges before I finish it.

Great design. Should be a commercial success.
