Looking to buy one Made in India - any good or bad thoughts on these? Also does not have a skunk stripe. Why would some have it and some not? Laurel board I believe thanks

Is there a particular reason why you want a Made in India VM? Those were some of the poorest quality guitars Squiers ever produced. They threw away more than they sold.

Thanks Eddie - exactly the feedback I was looking for! I’m still looking for my first strat and I remember loving my VM bass neck. I’ll keep looking, as I don’t want a CV strat because of cost

I had a VM Strat with a flame maple (fotoflame?) top, and it was a great guitar. It was as good as the later VMs with large headstock, IMO, but neither are quite as nice as a CV Strat. The Indian VM would have a RW board. They were made long before the switch to IL.

That's the first I've heard of this. I've owned many and never noticed any difference. What about them is supposedly inferior?

I'll make a copy from the Squier book. That's where I read it from. I think the quality of workmanship was poor.

If you mean Indonesia, that's a different story. Those VM's have been awesome.

The one I had was great, selling it was no reflection of quality, I just end up upgrading by flipping.

I would also disagree. Mine was stellar.

My bad it was made in Indonesia

I did read a quote from Dan Smith where he said that Indian made guitars were very inconsistent, and that's why they stopped having any guitars made there, but that was long before the VMs and Jacksons made there, which I believe may have been after he had retired. I also had a Jackson HSS Superstrat made in India from Cedro, and it was cool too.

You might be thinking of the Squier II models from the late ‘80s that were made in India. Never heard of any issues with the VMs (though nor have I ever played one).

I own a 2008 Vintage Modified Squire Stratocasters SSH with Duncan Designed pickups and a rosewood neck. My India made Stratocaster has a “Cedero” body that is light weight and sounds great. Who ever posted that India Made Squire Stratocasters are of poor quality probably has never played one. I own two Vintage Modifed Squire Strats -one 2008 made in India and a 2016 SSS made in Indonesia.
My 2008 Indian made Squire Strat has better paint and a lighter body that sounds better and a real rosewood neck than my 2016.
If I had the money, I would buy a few more. Indian Made Squire Stratocasters with the lighter bodies. Well Made Guitars.
