My favorite isn't MY cheapest guitar, but it IS a cheap guitar.
It's a powder blue SX LIquid, with 2 P90s and a Jazzmaster style trem.
It just sounds, feels, and plays sweet.

My original ‘51 was for seven years. It was the best
of a dozen I tried at the GC fire sale. Even being the best, it had killer fret ends (top & bottom), a terrible squishy nut, and the dismal saddles. Once those warts were fixed, I couldn’t stop playing it. The stock neck pup was Alnico, with a metal plate on it (some had it, some didn’t). Replaced the HB with a Dimarzio Dual Sound with a S/P mini toggle, a GFS pickguard, and Locking tuners. Even though I had “better” guitars, I’d always pick it up first.

A Gibson-only bud bought it off me after an afternoon playing it (a price I couldn’t refuse). Three years later, I got a 2014, all the warts were fixed out of the box... That’s how much Squier QC improved in 7 years, but this time both pups got replaced (both ceramic). It’s ONE of my fav’s, but not THE fave (don’t know that I have one anymore ).

Um... no. The security guys basically just pushed everyone outside and wouldn’t let anyone back in. The opening acts were good, and who I was really there to see anyway, so I was OK with it.

Honestly, I have OK gear. Better than what I started on, and not as nice as what others may have. But it’s all stuff that “spoke to me”, and it happens to be stuff on the lower end of the price ladder. My guitar that (probably) cost the most when it was new, is either my MIM Tele (that a P.O. sanded off all its finish, so it’s not worth anything anymore, or my “Skylark”, that only someone who collects semi-obscure MIJ stuff would want. So really if I tried to trade any of my guitars in on something, they’d be worth $100 a piece at best, for “name brand” gear at a real store. But I love them, so it really doesn’t matter. A doctor I work with, has a collection of $$$$$$ guitars that he’s brought to work to let me see-so far, a genuine early 60’s Strat, a “R9” ‘59 LP reissue, some kind of PRS, and I know he’s got other really nice things. Nothing of his that I’ve played, was anything more to me than a “nice guitar”, though-I’d rather play MINE. If he just gave one of them to me, I’d immediately sell it and pay bills off, instead of use any of them-don’t get me wrong, I really liked playing them and appreciated that he shared them with me, but the ones at home in my basement meant more to me than something I’d be too afraid to take out of its case ever. So your HWY 1 may be a “better” guitar, but you may play it and prefer whatever you currently have. I hope this made sense...

Makes total sense to me - I feel the same. I'd sell that LP and get a decent car !

In my defense I’ve been breathing solder fumes all evening, so I really hope I’m being coherent here!

Ha ha, I had a couple of those GFS guards, a place near me was blowing out the original 51’s so I picked up a black and a pearl guard, for whatever 51 I ended up with. By the time I got to “Banks” in Minneapolis (anyone remember them?) they had sold them all out, and I basically gave the guards away a couple years later.

Your 51 looks cool! I guess I never thought to just go without a guard...
