The only finish uglier than Gibson's clownburst, imo.

I don't remember the mostly historic models, but Antigua did come in Squier or rather Squier's did come in Antigua.. Mostly I remember the baritone Jazzmaster. There were others. Hideous is in the eye of the beholder...I can think of an additional few others in my personal taste.

I think I figured out the most objectionable part.
The pick guard getting the same treatment.
A solid colour (maybe black) would be a vast improvement.

I'm the outlier here, 'cause I love weird finishes. I've always liked Antigua, Silverburst, and the famous Fender Wildwood, where they injected colored dyes into the trees before they were harvested. The greens have aged pretty weel, but the purple ones have faded to a dark brown. fender-wildwood-circa-69-full-rear-1.jpg 1967-fender-coronado-ii-wildwood-6.jpg 8328-01-fender-stratocaster-splater-strat-splatercaster-203-art-original.jpg Fender Splattercaster Special Edition black gold.JPG hkasne7apxrevfkpkwlg.jpg
I even wish I'd bought one of Fenders splattercasters in the 90s or 2000s when my local dealer had 'em in a bunch of different colors. They were done the same way we did spin-art at the local county fair or beach bordwalk, spraying paint on a rotating guitar body.

Who wouldn't look cool playing this onstage?
Mark Agnesi, now with Gibson, dug 'em!

Antuiga isnt ugly, just boring. Not as boring as plain white. Or black or red but up there with silver burst. For me a guitar should have nice wood and show it. Ash or hog or flamed maple, all are better than just slopping paint on a body.

Funny you mention the Wildwood’s, and Antigua’s in the same post...
Early Fender Antigua runs were almost always to cover (and sell) botched clear coats (and/or damaged/accident-ed bodies).
So when the environmental outcry over Fender injecting dye into living beech trees gathered some bad press... Fender took MANY of those beauteous Wildwoods and repainted them... in Antigua!

  19. Well … If you're in Squier land, you'll get lot's of "boring" as you put it. Ash and flamed maple … you need the Fender Talk board.
I like's me some boring old Metallic Pearl (White).
