What is that "fwit" sound I hear when I turn off my tube amp??

Ever since I have had my Mono 15 tube amp, I have noticed this sort of "fwit" sound it makes when I turn it off.

I do turn the volume all the way down before switching off. I assumed it was just something tube amps did - by my Nephew commented that HIS tube amp (a hot rod deluxe) does not make a sound like that when he shuts down.

Anybody able to shed light on this strange sound - and, more importantly, do I need to worry about it?

    Thanks!

it's just all the electrons leaving the building. Lots of amps have that "feature" as well as radios, older TVs, etc.

It's probably pissed you turned it off. I also go FWIT when my wife sends me sleeping on the couch.

Mine does the same thing, IS. Voltages decay at different rates all over the circuitry when you turn off the power, and at some point along the way, something becomes unstable and you get a cool little sound for a second. Beware if that sound stops... big trouble could be brewing.

Sure. Blame the amp for the sound and the smell. ;)

Somewhere on some forum , an amp complains of the sound his owner makes.

I always wondered about my FWIT as well.

Anyone else have a weird kind of tuna fish smell from their MP?

likely heat and materials making up the PCB and any polyimide/Capton in the amp.

I've heard some folks comment on that, but never got it on mine.

It seems to depend somewhat on how high the gain and volume are set when you turn it off.

I seem to recall my AC30 doing that. It had a standby switch. My Bugera and SC don’t do it and they don’t have a standby switch.

In all seriousness that is the sound of the Unicorn dust getting sucked back into the collector.
