Just joined the forums after getting my John 5 Telecaster. I figured I'd through this photo up of my other Squier while I was at it.

It is a 1997 Squier Venus. It is a signature series guitar released in 1997 and co-designed by Courtney Love in conjunction with Fender's Squier brand, under the "Vista" series. Fender says its shape was said to be based on Mercury, Stratocaster and Rickenbacker solidbody guitars.

It was released in six or twelve string models. Colors available included black, sunburst and surf green. Surf green was named after paint code #57 (surf green) from Chevrolet circa 1957. This colour configuration was outlined in the Fender catalogue in 1997.

It was made in Japan, has a 25.5" scale, basswood body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard, 22 frets, paint-matched headstock, string-through body, 3 way Gibson-styled toggle switch and binding on the neck.

New, it sold for $699.99 and $999.99 for the 12 string model.

It was discontinued at the end of 1998.

Man, that is nice! I'd hang on to that one. I'd also like to see the 12 string version.

I appreciate the comments. I'll be sure and add it to that link first thing tomorrow. I want to take a few more photos first to highlight some of the unusual aspects of the guitar, like the Vista logo, the unusual neck pocket and the quality of the flamed maple neck.

I'll definitely be holding on to it. It took me quite some time to track one down. I got it through a music shop in Michigan. I'm a sucker for unusual guitars and anything sea foam green.

As a note, the neck is thick and rounded, reminding me more of a Les Paul than my Tele or Strat. The pickups are much hotter than I expected. All in all, it is very unusual and fun to play. I'd definitely buy another one if I found one.

Awww, man. I wanted to buy that 12 string if it was yours. I'd LOVE to have a matching set...

Hi Nugazer... What part of TN are you from? I am in Oak Ridge myself.

Wow... I really like the Venus... and the 12 string Venus... You don't get to see them very often and you hardly ever see them for sale. The people that have them probably want to hang on to them. I wish Squier would reissue this guitar duo. It would be popular.

I dig it. I looked for it for about 2 years before I finally found a dealer with one. I paid dearly for it, but don't regret it.

I'm live in Knoxville; not far from you. I've only lived here a couple of years, though.

The first doesn't offer shipping it appears...and that black one would be a really nice edition...

And all of them are selling for less than I had pay!

    My Venus

I picked up my Venus at a pawn shop a few months back. It came with a Fender hardshell case and the Venus inspection tag inside. It appears it was played very little and is in near mint condition. I feel very luck to have found it. I do know where one more just like it is for sale here in Oregon they are asking $450 for it. If it was black I would consider trying to get it. These little guitars are a kick to play and fun to look at too.
