I thought I'd use the Music, Theory Forum to express the style of play by the last singing cowboy, Toy Caldwell. Here is a live version of a classic '70 tune written by Toy, and performed by the Toy Caldwell Band, (I believe after he left the Marshall Tucker Band). The vid shows early pics of both bands and has the legendary guitar tone that Toy was known for. His weapons of choice, a Les Paul and a pair of Twin Reverb amps.

My friend, you feel old, because you are old. But the music lives on.

Yeah i love his playing and songs. The first one that got my my attention was a live 1973 video of Take the Highway .

Always loved Toy's playing. Ran into him once in a steak house in Roswell, Ga. Very pleasant guy. There's a lot of high-dollar horse country in that area, His truck was outside with a horse trailer behind it with the logo "Southern Music Stables" on the side. Somehow I figured it HAD to be his!

When we talk about "guitar greats that are gone", Hendrix and Stevie Ray are the 1st in mind. In my mind, true talents like Toy Caldwell and the Outlaws Huey Thomasson are equals. I guess that is another thread that deserves some ST space.

Another highly original American Hero that we lost too early (Tommy too).

I saw both bands in concert a couple of times and loved them both but, when the Outlaws opened it was dark and they would announce :
"ladies and gentlemen, the four guitar army, the Outlaws" and the lights come on and their lined up in a row wailin' on their axes I still get goosebumps ! Green grass and high tides forever !

Boy I just watched a video from 2013 and in the credits is a big rift of "may as well be the Henry Paul Band" I didn't realize so much has gone bad ! What a drag ! I'll keep my memories of them in the 70's !
