I won this off of SGW and it came last night in a nice Fender bag.
Except for a small dent in the body this guitar is mint. I have doubts that this guitar was ever played. The whammy bar and tools were still in the plastic bag. It looks very new. The wood grain in the neck is beautiful. The frets could be rounded off on the edges a bit. Not to worried about it. The string don't look that worn so I tuned it up and it sounds great! Intonation is also spot on! Its sound is so much brighter and twangy than my SE.
    BRING ON THE PICS!

Nice score :) I had a Starcaster a while back. Once I got it setup it played like a champ. I wish now that I hadn’t sold it

Looks like you got a good one with a beautiful neck!

The guitar in my avatar is a Starcaster. It has a really nice neck and plays so well that I found it worthy of a set of Tonerider pickups and new electronics. It did require some work on the fret edges.

What can we do now that Squier is producing the 70s style Starcaster? I came here thinking I was going to see one of those!

    Oh the confusion!

Somebody about 40 miles from me has posted a sunburst with a gig bag for $50. Sadly, there's a catch ... it is missing an E string. Sigh ....

Nice guitar! I have one just like it. Does yours have a CSX serial number? Full body thickness? I’m trying to figure out which of these Starcasters are worth buying and which ones aren’t.

Happy NGD! Some of those maple fretboard statcasters had beautifuly grained necks.

Have you noticed a difference in pickups between a SE and a starcaster ?

I preface this statement with I am a guitar Newbie.....

There is a definite difference. I am not sure why.
The Starcaster sounds so much lighter and brighter. To me it has the Strat sound I was looking for.
In comparison my SE is very dull. I have no idea why. I know the SE needs a better set up but I don't think that is why. Pots need to be cleaned/replaced? I blocked tremelo?
I don't know what strings are on the Starcaster, they look to be 9 gauge (same as SE) but are not silver colored, they are goldish? I would bet they are what orig came on the guitar as it very clean and very little dirt anywhere on it.

    @dbrian66 the serial # is CXS 080718226
EDIT: yes it is full bodied feels a bit lighter than my SE

The fret sprout is not that big of a deal to me. They don't bother my hand and I love the maple neck.

  19. Nice neck by the looks of it. Well, you sound pleased and hopefully at a reasonable price too.;)
As a side note, some Starcasters have a CWS serial number. I'm not sure at all if they where made at another plant in China or not.
    Cheers, Barrie.
