I’ve seen enough of these to know I CAN’T play guitar. At least the guy isn’t 5, though. Those are the ones that have me ready to pile up my gear and have a garage sale.

Don't worry Joe, if Tommy Emmanuel or one of his buddies is involved, it might as well be on Mars, we'll never get there.

Well, for all we know, this might be the only song the dude can play.....if you practice one song and one song only for a long time, you can sound great.... I don't worry 'bout it - there's some songs I can nail, I can fake a lot of stuff that non-guitarists would think I'm great, and fumble around a lot. I took lessons for several years when I was a kid 'til mid-teens from a jazz guitarist/teacher.....back then, I knew a lot more about theory, could sight read, etc....a lot has gone out the window with age, but....I can still fake it pretty good. And I still stand by the old adage that if you make a mistake, do it again so as it sounds that you meant to do that as artistic expression :) I play for me, my wife enjoys (most of) it, and a lot of folks seem to think I'm really good....I wish I was, but, am having fun and it gives me great enjoyment and stress relief. Yeah, there is some humbling stuff out there by kids. Lil Toby Lee is a kickass blues guitarist, has been for some time, and he's only 13!!! Have been following him since he's been posting videos playing in his onesie pajamas LOL. Toby should a future, of sorts, if there is indeed a future for blues rock

I saw Tommy in concert last December. It was in a hall that seated about 500 people and the show was spectacular. He just keeps getting better and better. There is no coasting with Tommy Emanuel. I'll never get even close, but he keeps me dreaming and practicing.

This is why I can’t justify paying a lot and buying super expensive guitars or gear. (Or buying a lot of guitars). Rory Gallagher is my idol and I wish I could play just like him. But I’ll never get even close

I really wish I could become good

The great thing is he makes it look so effortless. A non guitar player would look at that and think I could learn that. Watch the video again only concentrating on the man’s left hand. Crazy.

I’ve known for decades I can’t play but I do so love doing it.
Some of these people on YouTube are insanely talented...lol

So I find a few that inspire me and I continue to practice..I may get there one day or I may not but the journey will still be fun.

The breakthrough moments when you get something and go “ah hah!” Are pure gold.:D

*slinks back over to the corner with my telecaster, tablet of video lessons and continues playing badly* o_O

Saw Richard Smith with his wife on cello three years ago at a workshop in my town. He is a monster player. His wife is quite good as well.

Watching these you tube videos of guys like that is intimidating and can be discouraging. Just think of it this way, that caliber player may not venture in you neck of the woods so you might be the best in your locale even though we can't measure up to
that technical ability, we can shine where we at.

Truly around that type of player I wouldn't even take my guitar out of the case and I would say "who me, no I don't play" but in my own element I'm not ashamed and thankful for what I can do. Platefire
