Couldn't find much by way of Google other than a wiki article, but it left me dead ended...I think.

    "Chinese & Taiwanese Squiers
CY: C = China, Y = Yako (Taiwan), the serial number prefix is followed by a 2 number year.
    For example
    "CY97" = made by Yako in 1997."

So with that rationality my bass with it's serial # starting with CY41 would've been made in 1941...I think not. Did they perhaps after 1999 drop the first digit of the year which would possibly make this an '04?

Any help would be appreciated, i'm very un-knowledgeable in this category.

I was trying to avoid that if possible, but if it's a necessity to tell the date then it will just have to wait until the weekend...

No big deal at all really, I was just curious.

    Thanks for the advice though!

I've never seen any bass making clowns, only the kind that make weird balloon poodles and such. Hahaha.

I think it may be a 94. Reading this:

seems to suggest it may have been made prior to 96 and, while getting the newer origin prefix of CY still used the single year numerator for a 90's model.

Then again, it could be something totally different! :D ;)

First 4 digits are the month/year....

Mine: CY0002, meaning Feb of 02. Seems to work on every CY/ICS Strat at GC/Sam Ash...

    Hope this helps.

the serial number says nothing about the month. first 2 numbers are the year.

Loosen the strings down a bit, then capo the strings at the first fret. Then unscrew the neck and you won't have to burn a set of strings. If that matters to ya, I know bass strings are not cheap.

Just need to correct this very wrong information that shows up in too many threads.

"Yako" in NOT a Taiwanese manufacturer, Yako Musical Instruments is in Zhangzhou CHINA. Like many companies with only administrative offices in Taiwan, nothing is made there, the Factory is in China (Zhangzhou). See Google Earth.

    Cheers.

I'm betting it was made in 94, using the common 1 number year of pre 97 numbers, from other factories?
