Welcome to the forum. A lot of us put our guitars away when we got busy with life. Then when we get older and some time frees up when try again. I haven't got any better playing than when I was 16, but it makes me happy.

Welcome aboard from Nashville, hoss! Thank you for your service! And congrats on gettin back in the swing of things... Can't go wrong with a Bullet, but the guys are right, for 20 years of playin I only had a couple guitars, but after bein around here for a couple years, I've got 'em everywhere now! And I know how to work on 'em (somewhat) to boot, lol!

Alot of guys don't care for the trapezoid (trap/crap) tuners... I've only got 'em on one guitar, but it's my "Number One" 97 Squier Mexican Strat, and they've never given me any problems... But inexpensive tuners have came a LONG way, they're cheap, readily available, and not that difficult to switch out... BUT...
I'd agree with the earlier post about makin sure the nut isn't binding and rubbing pencil lead (graphite) in the slots... A LOT of the time tuning issues aren't the tuners...

As for the "thin" sound, I've learned a couple tricks from the guys and one of them is; BEFORE ya start swappin pickups out, replace your pots with nice full sized pots, and replace your capacitor... It can make a big difference, and it's a lot less expensive than new pups... Plus if you DO decide to swap them, then the pots and caps are already upgraded... Just my 2 cents worth...

    And again, welcome!

Welcome and congrats on the new guitar! I started playing in my 30's with a VERY low end Dean. It's all about having fun.

    Welcome!

More than a few of us came back from decades of playing hiatus... pretty common here. You’ll fit right in.

Welcome from within the 901. You can learn a lot from the folks on this forum about guitars in general (not just Squiers).
